Universal Relations for Transversely Isotropic Elastic Materials

Mathematics and Mechanics of Solids, 2002
We adopt Hayes and Knops’s approach and derive universal relations for finite deformations of a transversely isotropic elastic material. Explicit universal relations are obtained for homogeneous deformations corresponding to triaxial stretches, simple shear, and simultaneous shear and extension.

A Twelvth Order Theory of Transverse Bending of Transversely Isotropic Plates

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1983
AbstractMotivated by the problem of the differences between stress and stress couple concentration factors for transverse bending of plates with small circular holes we use a variational method for the derivation of a twelfth order two‐dimensional theory of transversely isotropic plates, which includes the known sixth order theory of sheardeformable ...

Isotropic constituent layers equivalent to a transversely isotropic medium

55th EAEG Meeting, 1993
A large fraction of the material occupying sedimentary basins consists of shale-like layered media. The elastic behavior of such shale formations is often found to be a type of transverse isotropy, where a) the horizontal SH velocity is greater than the vertical shear velocity, b) the horizontal P wave velocity is greater than the vertical P wave ...
