Scattering by an infinite transversely isotropic cylinder in a transversely isotropic medium
Wave Motion, 1998Abstract The scattering by an infinite circular cylinder in a transversely isotropic, elastic medium is considered. The symmetry axis of the medium is parallel to the cylinder axis. The cylinder may be transversely isotropic with symmetry axis along the cylinder axis, or as special cases isotropic or a cavity.

Transversely Isotropic Medium with Lined Hole
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1983An elasticity solution is presented for a semi‐infinite transversely isotropic medium having a circular cylindrical hole with an elastic lining. The lining is analyzed as an orthotropic shell. The general solution obtained is specialized for the cases of rigid lining and no lining.

Layer Stripping for a Transversely Isotropic Elastic Medium
SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1999In this paper an inverse boundary value problem of 3D elasticity is considered and a layer stripping algorithm is developed to solve it. Let \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^3\) be a bounded domain with a smooth boundary \(\partial\Omega\). \(\Omega\) is considered as a linear inhomogeneous locally transversely isotropic elastic body.

Generalized Dix Equations for a Layered Transversely Isotropic Medium
67th EAGE Conference & Exhibition, 2005In standard Dix equations, normal-incidence traveltimes and rms or NMO velocities for PP reflections are used to estimate interval velocity and thickness for homogeneous isotropic horizontal layers. For a stack of homogeneous horizontal layers that are transversely isotropic with a vertical symmetry axis (VTI), the qPqP traveltimes (and the qPqSV ...

Crack models for a transversely isotropic medium
International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1993A commonly used model for a transversely isotropic cracked rock is that by Hudson (1980, 1981). This model is based on a simplified analysis of a thin circular crack, with displacement and stress conditions specified on the boundary. These papers have a second‐order correction in addition to the first‐order term in porosity/crack density. In this paper

Kinematic Inverse Problem for Transversely Isotropic Medium
Proceedings, 2011Inversion for Thomsen-type anisotropic parameters is considered based on surface seismic and well data. A 2D model consists of a dipping reflector in homogeneous transversely isotropic medium. The first part of the work is devoted to inversion problem stability for different datasets such as wide- and narrow-azimuth data and checkshot data along the ...

Traveltime approximations for a layered transversely isotropic medium
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2004, 2004We consider multiple transmitted, reflected, and converted qP-qSV-waves or multiple transmitted and reflected SH-waves in a horizontally layered medium that is transversely isotropic with a vertical symmetry axis (VTI). Traveltime and offset (horizontal distance) between a source and receiver, not necessarily in the same layer, are expressed as ...
