Exact elastic impedance matrices for transversely isotropic medium

GEOPHYSICS, 2016
Conventional elastic impedances are derived as scalars by means of the integration of reflectivity. In this sense, they are attributes of the seismic reflection but not the intrinsic physical property of the subsurface media. The derivation of these expressions shares the same assumptions as the reflectivity approximations, such as weak impedance ...

Isotropic constituent layers equivalent to a transversely isotropic medium

55th EAEG Meeting, 1993
A large fraction of the material occupying sedimentary basins consists of shale-like layered media. The elastic behavior of such shale formations is often found to be a type of transverse isotropy, where a) the horizontal SH velocity is greater than the vertical shear velocity, b) the horizontal P wave velocity is greater than the vertical P wave ...

Acoustic multipole logging in transversely isotropic two-phase medium

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1995
An anisotropic reservoir is simulated by a transversely isotropic two-phase medium, and the acoustic field excited by a multipole source in a fluid-filled borehole is investigated. The medium outside the borehole is modeled following Biot’s and homogenization theories. Similar work has only be seen in Schmitt’s [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 86, 2397–2421 (1989)]

Penny-Shaped Dugdale Crack in a Transverse Isotropic Medium

International Journal of Fracture, 2012
Analytical results for a penny-shaped crack with a plastic zone at the crack front are given. The crack is embedded in an infinite transversely isotropic elastic medium and is assumed to be subjected to two identical axisymmetric loads on the upper and lower crack faces.

Offset VSP reflection imaging in a transversely isotropic medium

55th EAEG Meeting, 1993
The Imperial College borehole test site in Northumberland, England consists of four 250 metre vertical holes which intersect a horizontally layered cyclical sequence of sandstones, shales and carbonates of the Namurian Upper Limestone Group. Figure 1 shows velocity logs from two of the holes which are 50 metres apart.

Interpretation of angle gathers for transversely isotropic medium

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2008, 2008
Reservoir seismic applications require offset domain seismic data to be converted into angles. While it is straightforward to convert offsets to angles under the isotropic assumptions, such a transformation is complex in the presence of anisotropy.

Estimating Subgrade Reaction Modulus for Transversely Isotropic Rock Medium

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2010
Most of the rock medium possesses intrinsic grain orientation or preferred bedding and joint directions, thus requiring the use of at least transverse isotropy to describe its elastic behavior. This paper presents a series of charts, based on extensive finite element parametric studies along with nonlinear regression analysis of FE simulation results ...
