Sustainable Materials Design With Multi‐Modal Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Critical mineral scarcity, high embodied carbon, and persistent pollution from materials processing intensify the need for sustainable materials design. This review frames the problem as multi‐objective optimization under heterogeneous, high‐dimensional evidence and highlights multi‐modal AI as an enabling pathway.

Dual Physiological Barriers Bypassed by a Silk‐Based Supramolecular Protein Delivery Platform for Neuroinflammation Mitigation in Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A supramolecular nanocomplex based on phenolic‐modified silk sericin is developed to deliver antioxidant enzymes across the blood–brain barrier and escape lysosomal degradation. This dual‐barrier‐crossing system reduces neuroinflammation and improves cognitive performance in Alzheimer's disease mouse model, offering a promising strategy for protein ...

The Occurence of Ecological Traps in Bird Populations: Is our Knowledge Sufficient? A Review

open access: yesJournal of Landscape Ecology, 2012
Anthropogenic changes in a landscape create new cues for birds, which must permanently adapt to these. If landscape changes occur too quickly, individuals have insufficient time to develop adequate reactions.

A Nutritional Profile of the Trap-Nesting Wasp Trypoxylon lactitarse (Hymenoptera: Crabronidae): Comparison of Sexes and Overwintering and Non-Overwintering Generations

open access: yesInsects, 2017
The wasp Trypoxylon lactitarse Saussure is a bivoltine trap-nesting species that possesses a non-overwintering generation (G1) and a generation that overwinters as a prepupa (G2).

Discovery and Engineering of a Rat Endogenous Retrovirus Reverse Transcriptase for Efficient Prime Editing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We screened 558 reverse transcriptases and engineered an optimized rat endogenous retrovirus‐derived variant, enRERV‐RT, via structure‐guided engineering and deep mutational scanning. This enhanced prime editor, based on the engineered RT, outperforms conventional M‐MLV‐RT systems across plant and animal cells, particularly at hard‐to‐edit loci ...

Description of the nest, eggs and nestling of the Black-breasted Gnateater, Conopophaga snethlageae (Aves: Conopophagidae), with emphasis on nesting behavior [PDF]

open access: yesActa Amazonica
Knowledge regarding the reproductive biology of the Conopophaga genus remains limited, particularly concerning nesting behavior, parental care, and division of tasks between parents.

Population Distribution of Rats (Rattus argentiventer) and the Damage Intensity on Rice and Other Crops in Pleret, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

open access: yesJurnal Proteksi Tanaman, 2023
Rice field rats is one of the main pests of rice in Indonesia and other Asian countries that can cause a crop failure. The availability food sources might affect the rat foraging in the field.

Habitat selection and reproduction of red-backed shrikes (Lanius collurio) in relation to abundance of potential avian nest predators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Many studies of farmland bird species have related abundance of species to different habitat variables, whereas few studies have incorporated the effects of predation on habitat selection. However, it is generally assumed that prey species select habitat

Latitudinal variation in day length and working day length has a confounding effect when comparing nest attentiveness in tropical and temperate species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We gratefully acknowledge the financial support provided by the British Ornithologists’ Union and the African Bird Club.During incubation, tropical passerines have been shown to have lower levels of nest attentiveness than their counterparts at north ...
