Brownian-particle trapping by clusters of traps
Physical Review E, 1993Brownian-particle trapping is considered in the case when traps are gathered in ``clouds'' distributed in space in a noncorrelated manner. A general formula for the survival probability is derived. Its analysis shows that the trap-cluster formation leads to a process slowdown (meaning a slowdown in the trapping rate) in comparison with the case of ...

Regulation of Lymphocyte Trapping: The Negative Trap
The Journal of Immunology, 1975Abstract Suppression of 51Cr-labeled lymphocyte homing to the spleen occurs after administration of insoluble protein antigen and as a late sequela to the graft-vs-host response (GVHr). This decrease in splenic localization of labeled cells, termed “negative trapping,” has elements of immunologic specificity in that tolerance induction ...

Antimatter was first predicted in 1931, by Dirac. Work with high-energy antiparticles is now commonplace, and anti-electrons are used regularly in the medical technique of positron emission tomography scanning. Although functional ureteral obstruction results in a decrease in the rate of antegrade urine flow, urine may still traverse the obstructed segment in a retrograde direction. Decreased musculature is found in the obstructing area. The combination of these processes results in reflux with trapping.

A novel feature of platforms such as marketplaces and social networks is that non-participants may become worse off as others join. We show that in such settings, rational agents can be induced to join the platform despite being better off without it-a phenomenon we call a platform trap.

Mouse models of asthma are now being used extensively in drug research. However, the successful unravelling of combinatorial interplays of cells and molecules in the murine airways may not be matched by equally successful demonstrations of an asthma-like pathophysiology.

In numerous economic scenarios, contracting parties may not have a clear picture of all the relevant aspects. While confronted with these unawareness issues, the strategic decisions of the contracting parties critically depend on their sophistication. A contracting party may be unaware of what she is entitled to determine. Therefore, she can only infer

One of the main obstacles for successful economic development is the formation of institutional traps, inefficient yet stable norms of behaviour. Domination of barter exchange, arrears, corruption and black market activities are examples of institutional traps that have hampered reforms in transition economies.

Poverty and unemployment traps and trappings
The Journal of Social Welfare Law, 1986Abstract The existence of the poverty and unemployment traps within the United Kingdom's overall tax and benefit structure has been a cause of concern for several years, and has been thoroughly documented.1 The concern is registered across the political spectrum from those who are worried about the effect on the individual welfare of those who are ...
