A robust reprogramming strategy for generating hepatocyte-like cells usable in pharmaco-toxicological studies

open access: yesStem Cell Research & Therapy, 2023
Background High-throughput pharmaco-toxicological testing frequently relies on the use of established liver-derived cell lines, such as HepG2 cells. However, these cells often display limited hepatic phenotype and features of neoplastic transformation ...

Ki67 expression at Kasai portoenterostomy as a prognostic factor in patients with biliary atresia

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 5, Page 873-883, October 2020., 2020
No consensus exists for predicting outcomes after Kasai portoenterostomy (KP) using liver histological findings. Ki67 (clone, MIB‐1) expression in liver parenchyma was measured by means of immunohistochemical staining of samples from five living donors and 35 patients with biliary atresia to assess its value in predicting KP outcomes.

Simulated model of RAPID concept: highlighting innate inflammation and liver regeneration

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 5, Page 893-903, October 2020., 2020
The mechanism of RAPID‐associated liver regeneration and its regulation remains unclear. A RAPID model in rats was developed involving cold ischaemia and reperfusion of the selected future liver remnant, portal vein ligation of the remaining segments during step I, and resection of the deportalized lobes during step II.

Outcomes for high‐risk hepatoblastoma in a resource‐challenged setting

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 4, Page 630-636, August 2020., 2020

Liver transplantation for unresectable colorectal liver metastases in patients and donors with extended criteria (SECA‐II arm D study)

open access: yesBJS Open, Volume 4, Issue 3, Page 467-477, June 2020., 2020
Patients with extensive liver tumour load and a mainly poorly differentiated N2 primary tumour have short overall survival from the time of liver transplantation. Relapses were mostly unresectable and the patients had short survival from the time of relapse. These patients should not be offered liver transplantation.

FibroScan compared to liver biopsy for accurately staging recurrent hepatic steatosis and fibrosis after transplantation for MASH. [PDF]

open access: yesLiver Int
Abstract Background and Aims Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) recurrence after liver transplantation (LT) seems unavoidable and gradual. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy in the post‐LT setting of patients transplanted for metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatohepatitis (MASH) of recurrent hepatic steatosis ...
