Range‐wide intraspecific variation reflects past adaptation to climate in a gypsophile Mediterranean shrub

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 112, Issue 7, Page 1533-1549, July 2024.
Despite strong specialization to gypsum soils, past divergent selection related to climatic gradients has driven adaptive population differentiation in Lepidium subulatum. All populations showed high but similar plasticity to drought, indicating that selection did not act against plasticity in harsh environmental conditions.

Plant‐based meat analogues marketed in Catalonia: analysis of contaminants, essential elements, microbiological and physicochemical status, dietary intake estimation and health risk assessment

open access: yesFood Risk Assess Europe, Volume 2, Issue 3, July 2024.
Abstract The latest barometer of food safety in Catalonia conducted by the Catalan Food Safety Agency (ACSA for its initials in Catalan) in 2021 shows that 28.7% of the population consumes meat analogues (substitutes). Microbe‐induced plant resistance against insect pests depends on timing of inoculation but is consistent across climatic conditions

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 38, Issue 4, Page 848-860, April 2024.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract To cope with abiotic and biotic stressors, plants have developed mutualistic associations with beneficial soil microbes, but little is known about how extreme abiotic conditions impact on microbe‐induce resistance to insect herbivores.
