Analysis of traveling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) in GPS TEC launched by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake

Radio Science, 2016
AbstractTraveling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) have been detected using various measurement techniques, including HF sounders, incoherent scatter radars, in situ measurements, and optical techniques. However, observations of TIDs have tended to be sparse and there is a need for additional observations to provide new scientific insight into the ...

Equatorial travelling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) compared with midlatitude TIDs

2011 XXXth URSI General Assembly and Scientific Symposium, 2011
A spaced radio experiment for measuring the motions of F-region TIDs has been operated in Brazil since March 2010. The location is near the easternmost tip of Brazil at 7 deg. south latitude or about −11 deg. geomagnetic lat. These are the first systematic measurements of TIDs near the equator.

Traveling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) at mid‐latitudes: Solar cycle phase dependence

Radio Science, 1988
Faraday observations of total electron content (TEC) at Haifa, Israel (32.87°N, 35.09°E), during periods near the maximum (1980) and minimum (1984) phases of the current solar cycle have yielded information about the structure and variability of the ionosphere during both epochs in general, and about traveling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) in ...

Conjugate effects in the generation of travelling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) in the F-region

Planetary and Space Science, 1983
A rapid onset of auroral absorptions was simultaneously recorded by a chain of standard riometers, situated in the northern and southern magneto-conjugate areas, during a period of pronounced substorm activity. The first absorption peak was followed by sequential disturbance patterns in the occurrence of the F-region parameters, virtual height (h′F ...

Travelling ionospheric disturbances (TIDs) and tides observed by a super-resolution HF direction finding system

Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 2006
Abstract In this paper, the occurrence of tides, large-scale travelling ionospheric disturbances (LSTIDs) and medium-scale travelling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) at mid-latitudes is investigated with respect to different geomagnetic conditions described by the K-index.
