Active Traveling Wave in the Cochlea [PDF]
A sound stimulus entering the inner ear excites a deformation of the basilar membrane which travels along the cochlea towards the apex. It is well established that this wavelike disturbance is amplified by an active system. Recently, it has been proposed that the active system consists of a set of self-tuned critical oscillators which automatically ...

Symmetric Waves Are Traveling Waves
We show that horizontally symmetric water waves are traveling waves. The result is valid for the Euler equations, and is based on a general principle that applies to a large class of nonlinear partial differential equations, including some of the most famous model equations for water waves. A detailed analysis is given for weak solutions of the Camassa-

Minimal Wave Speed in a Competitive Integrodifference System without Comparison Principle
We investigate the traveling wave solutions of a competitive integrodifference system without comparison principle. In the earlier conclusions, a threshold of wave speed is defined while the existence or nonexistence of traveling wave solutions remains ...

Research on Active Flow Control Method of NACA0012 Airfoil with Traveling Wave Structure [PDF]
Traveling wave is an innovative active flow control technique that can remarkably mitigate flow separation. This paper employs numerical simulation to examine how traveling wave structures affect the NACA0012 airfoil.

Minimal Wave Speed in an Integrodifference System of Predator-Prey Type
This article studies the minimal wave speed of traveling wave solutions in an integrodifference predator-prey system that does not have the comparison principle. By constructing generalized upper and lower solutions and utilizing the theory of asymptotic

Geometric Scaling as Traveling Waves [PDF]
We show the relevance of the nonlinear Fisher and Kolmogorov-Petrovsky- Piscounov (KPP) equation to the problem of high energy evolution of the QCD amplitudes. We explain how the traveling wave solutions of this equation are related to geometric scaling, a phenomenon observed in deep-inelastic scattering experiments.

Nonlinear Stability of Periodic Traveling Wave Solutions of the Generalized Korteweg-de Vries Equation [PDF]
In this paper, we study the orbital stability for a four-parameter family of periodic stationary traveling wave solutions to the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation.

Traveling Waves in Visual Cortex [PDF]
Electrode recordings and imaging studies have revealed that localized visual stimuli elicit waves of activity that travel across primary visual cortex. Traveling waves are present also during spontaneous activity, but they can be greatly reduced by widespread and intensive visual stimulation.

Waves of maximal height for a class of nonlocal equations with homogeneous symbols [PDF]
We discuss the existence and regularity of periodic traveling-wave solutions of a class of nonlocal equations with homogeneous symbol of order $-r$, where $r>1$.
