Catalyst Heating Characteristics in the Traveling-Wave Microwave Reactor [PDF]

open access: yesCatalysts, 2021
Traveling-Wave Microwave Reactor (TMR) presents a novel heterogeneous catalytic reactor concept based on a coaxial waveguide structure. In the current paper, both modeling and experimental studies of catalyst heating in the TMR are presented. The developed 3D multiphysics model was validated from the electromagnetic and heat transfer points of view ...

A High-Efficiency Single-Mode Traveling Wave Reactor for Continuous Flow Processing

open access: yesProcesses, 2022
This paper proposes a high-efficiency single-mode traveling wave reactor based on a rectangular waveguide and its design method for continuous flow processing. The reactor has a large-capacity reaction chamber (1000 mm × 742.8 mm × 120 mm) that can provide high-energy-efficiency and approximately uniform microwave heating.

Research on Thermal-Hydraulic Model and Characteristics of Lead Cooled Traveling Wave Reactor

open access: yesSpringer Proceedings in Physics, 2023
AbstractTraveling wave reactor (TWR) is an advanced nuclear power system, which can keep the total amount of fissionable nuclides constant during its lifetime through the transformation of fissionable nuclides in the reactor, so as to maintain the stability of the effective proliferation factor of the reactor core.

Traveling waves in a bio-reactor model with stage-structure

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications, 2012
The authors obtain a threshold-type result on the existence of traveling waves for the following nonlocal and time delayed bio-reactor model: \[ S_t=d_1 S_{xx}-vS_x-f(S)u, \] \[ u_t=u_{xx}-vu_x-ku+e^{-d\tau}\int_{-\infty}^{+\infty}f(S(y-v\tau,t-\tau))u(y-v\tau,t-\tau)f_\alpha(x-y)dy, \] where \(S,u\) denote the nutrient and microbial population ...

Coaxial traveling-wave microwave reactors: Design challenges and solutions

Chemical Engineering Research and Design, 2020
Abstract Microwave chemistry applications have been investigated for more than three decades. Contrary to common cavity-based microwave applicators, the traveling-wave microwave reactor has the potential to enable the process scale-up, a better coupling of microwave energy with microwave-susceptible catalysts, and consequently highly uniform ...

Existence and stability of travelling waves in fixed‐bed reactors

Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, 1989
AbstractThe model equations of the catalytic fixed‐bed reactor often possess solutions in the form of travelling wave fronts similar to the well‐known case of Fisher's equation. The mathematical investigation of these waves requires searching for solutions of singular boundary value problems in the phase plane or in the three‐dimensional phase space ...
