Improving benthic monitoring by combining trawl and grab surveys
Marine Pollution Bulletin, 2011Environmental monitoring is performed on seafloor communities since these organisms are relatively stationary and integrate the environmental conditions over many years. Standard practices involve sampling by grab. Epifaunal taxa, often missed by grab sampling, are likely to have different ecological functions.

Estimating net efficiency of a survey trawl for flatfishes
Fisheries Research, 2002Net efficiency, or the proportion of fish within the path of a trawl net that are captured, of the 83-112 Eastern bottom trawl was estimated for four flatfish and one roundfish species encountered on the stock assessment surveys of the eastern Bering Sea.

The ICES survey protocol for offshore beam trawl surveys describes the current methodologies, stratification, and sample processing used in the offshore beam trawl surveys that provide fisheries-independent information to the fish stock assessments for a variety of flatfish species, as well as information for indices under the Marine Strategy Framework

A simulation model for designing groundfish trawl surveys
Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2003This paper describes a convenient simulation model, based on the compound binomial-gamma distribution, to assist the planning and design of groundfish trawl surveys. The analysis uses swept-area density measurements from stratified tows to give a simple nonparametric biomass estimate.

Manual for the Baltic International Trawl Surveys
1997The report ofthe Workshop on standard trawls for Baltic international fish surveys (ICES C.M. 1997/J:6) were evaluated by the Working Group. The Workshop report stressed two restrictions related to the bouom topography of the Baltic Sea which were considered ofmajor importance for the selection ofrcsearch trawls for the area.

The International Bottom Trawl Survey In The North Sea, The Skagerrak And Kattegat
1997No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author.Since its start in 1966 as 'a pilot-study for future young herring research in the NorthSea' the International Bottom Trawl Survey has been conducted annually, and evolvedfrom a specific herring recruit survey into a much more general 'fish survey'.

TrawlBase, a configurable database for trawl surveys data
1993This work presents an advanced software environment which is aimed at defining and managing databases for data from trawl surveys. In particular, it describes the conceptual model adopted for 0rganizing the data, and the basic characteristics of the management system.
