Actin filaments can assemble at the barbed end and disassemble simultaneously at the pointed end. Prerequisites for this treadmilling reaction are the structural polarity of actin filaments and tight coupling of the actin assembly reaction and the adenosine triphosphate hydrolysis occurring during actin polymerization.

Microtubule Treadmilling in Vivo
Science, 1997In vivo, cytoplasmic microtubules are nucleated and anchored by their minus ends at the centrosome and are believed to turn over by a mechanism termed dynamic instability: depolymerization and repolymerization at their plus ends. In cytoplasmic fragments of fish melanophores, microtubules were shown to detach from their nucleation site and depolymerize

A53-year-oldmanwithchestpainwas referred toundergoanexercise treadmill test (ETT). He reported substernal chest pain, lasting less than 5minutes, which sometimes occurred if he ranmore than 2miles. He had no other symptoms. The patient's medical history included hypertension (controlled with lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide), a low-density ...

Treadmill Testing in Hypertensives
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1990To the Editor.— Dr Fleg 1 answers some questions about resistive exercise in hypertensive persons. While he seems comfortable with the performance of such exercises by hypertensive patients with controlled resting blood pressures, I think the position he takes merits some scrutiny.

Treadmill experience mediates the perceptual-motor aftereffect of treadmill walking
Experimental Brain Research, 2011People have a lifetime of experience in which to calibrate their self-produced locomotion with the resultant optical flow. Contrary to walking across the ground, however, walking on a treadmill produces minimal optical flow, and consequentially, a perceptual-motor aftereffect results.
