Growth Rate, Tree Rings, and Wood Anatomy of a Tropical Cloud Forest Tree Invader
The presence of shade-tolerant tree invaders has been recently noted in tropical and temperate forest understories. Maximum growth rate is an important trait for exotic trees becoming invaders in a forest. This study aimed to determine the growth rate of Eriobotrya japonica in a secondary cloud forest in central Veracruz, Mexico. The objectives of this

Temporally resolved intra-annual wood density variations in European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) as affected by climate and aspect [PDF]
We investigated the temporal variability of intra-annual wood density variations in European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in a valley in southwestern Germany. Samples were collected from 11 beech trees growing at north-west (NW) and south-west (SW) exposed

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

Structure and Function of Intra–Annual Density Fluctuations: Mind the Gaps
Tree rings are natural archives of climate and environmental information with a yearly resolution. Indeed, wood anatomical, chemical and other properties of tree rings are a synthesis of several intrinsic, environmental factors, and interconnected ...

Tree-ring anomalies in Toona ciliata [PDF]
New increment core samples of Toona ciliata collected in the Australian tropics and subtropics compared to already existing material from the Upper Kangaroo Valley, near Sydney exhibit distinct differences in tree-ring structures.

Potential of tree-ring analysis in a wet tropical forest: A case study on 22 commercial tree species in Central Africa [PDF]
Implementing sustainable forest management requires basic information on growth, ages, reproduction and survival of exploited tree species. This information is generally derived from permanent sample plots where individual trees are monitored. Accurately

This work shows that the mechanical performance of multimaterial digital light processing (DLP) printed thermoset composites is governed by resin compatibility and interfacial design rather than spatial patterning alone. Brittle and ductile resin combinations produced premature interfacial failure, while graded interfaces and mechanically compatible ...

To flow or to grow? Impacts of tapping on sugar maple
Maple sugaring is a rapidly growing industry in North America. Maples are tapped annually, thus undergoing repeated wounding and resource reduction for sap water collection.
