Airborne Tree Crown Detection for Predicting Spatial Heterogeneity of Canopy Transpiration in a Tropical Rainforest [PDF]

open access: goldRemote Sensing, 2020
Tropical rainforests comprise complex 3D structures and encompass heterogeneous site conditions; their transpiration contributes to climate regulation. The objectives of our study were to test the relationship between tree water use and crown metrics and

Urban Tree Canopy and Environmental Justice: Examining the Distributional Equity of Urban Tree Canopy in Guangzhou, China. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Environ Res Public Health, 2023
Rapid urbanization has led to a series of environmental problems that are harmful to the physical and mental health of residents. Not only can increasing urban tree canopy (UTC) improve sustainable city development, but it can also effectively promote the quality of life for residents; however, the uneven spatial distribution of UTC can also bring ...

Apple Fruit Growth and Quality Depend on the Position in Tree Canopy [PDF]

open access: yesPlants, 2022
Modern apple orchard systems should guarantee homogeneity of fruit internal and external qualities and fruit maturity parameters. However, when orchards reach productive age, a variation of these parameters takes place and mostly it is related to uneven ...

An Environmental Assessment of School Shade Tree Canopy and Implications for Sun Safety Policies: The Los Angeles Unified School District [PDF]

open access: goldISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information, 2015
In an effort to reforest school sites with limited resources, communities and non-profits have implemented projects on Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) school sites, often without thought for the best location, long-term maintenance, or ...

Using GNSS-based vegetation optical depth, tree sway motion, and eddy covariance to examine evaporation of canopy-intercepted rainfall in a subalpine forest [PDF]

open access: goldBiogeosciences
Recent advances in the measurement of water content within a forest have led to new possibilities to study canopy evaporation. We used a pair of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers (one above the canopy and one near the forest floor) to ...

Relighting Photographs of Tree Canopies [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2011
We present an image-based approach to relighting photographs of tree canopies. Our goal is to minimize capture overhead; thus the only input required is a set of photographs of the tree taken at a single time of day, while allowing relighting at any other time. We first analyze lighting in a tree canopy both theoretically and using simulations.
