Continuous moving measurements of trunk locations and diameters at breast height with 3D mapping in plain forests

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2018
The purpose of this research is measurement in plain forest using a 3D-LIDAR. Point clouds of standing trees are acquired by a mobile 3D-LIDAR that is brought by a human who keeps walking in the forest. We have developed the mobile 3D-LIDAR that has wide

Distribution System Outage Detection using Consumer Load and Line Flow Measurements

open access: yes, 2015
An outage detection framework for power distribution networks is proposed. Given the tree structure of the distribution system, a method is developed combining the use of real-time power flow measurements on edges of the tree with load forecasts at the ...

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Latent tree models for hierarchical topic detection

open access: yesArtificial Intelligence, 2017
We present a novel method for hierarchical topic detection where topics are obtained by clustering documents in multiple ways. Specifically, we model document collections using a class of graphical models called hierarchical latent tree models (HLTMs).

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Coding of non-stationary sources as a foundation for detecting change points and outliers in binary time-series [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
An interesting scheme for estimating and adapting distributions in real-time for non-stationary data has recently been the focus of study for several different tasks relating to time series and data mining, namely change point detection, outlier ...

Voting based tree detection from satellite images

open access: yes2016 24th Signal Processing and Communication Application Conference (SIU), 2016
As satellite images cover wide areas and obtaining them has become easier, using these images in agriculture has become an important research area. Especially, satellite images can be used in seasonal crop estimation. Obtaining the number of trees in a region, with the size of each tree, gives the approximate amount of crop that can be harvested from ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.
