Elucidating the Role of Surface Ligands on the Oxidative Etching of Au Bipyramids During Photothermia Using Liquid Cell Transmission Electron Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Gold bipyramids can act as efficient plasmonic nanoheaters, but they often reshape during laser heating. This study shows that oxygen nanobubbles drive oxidative etching and that surface ligands control stability. CTAB‐ and citrate‐coated particles blunt and lose optical performance, whereas polystyrene sulfonate preserves shape and heating by ...

Rewriting Polymer Fate via Chemomechanical Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a life‐like “living” polymer platform that can grow, degrow, and reprogram its properties after fabrication. By integrating mass transport, reversible polymerization, and controlled catalysis, the material achieves on‐demand changes in size, shape, and mechanical properties.

Isotopically Selected Co‐Doping of 121Sb and 123Sb Pairs in Silicon

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Pairs of 121Sb and 123Sb atoms are doped into silicon using single cluster implantation and found to reside substitutionally within the crystal lattice due to self‐annealing with a Sb‐to Sb separation of ≈2 nm. Molecular dynamics simulations reproduce the observed experimental results and single ion cluster detection efficiencies of 94% are ...

Multiscale Acoustic Bubble Actuators Using Bioinspired Liquid‐Repellent Microstructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
The article presents multiscale acoustic bubble actuators using bioinspired liquid‐repellent microstructures, enabling programmable trapping, pumping, mixing, and precise flow control. Mimicking springtail microstructures, these scalable actuators (200 µm–1 mm) offer multifunctionality in all‐in‐one devices, letter‐shaped arrays, and 3D cube ...

Rapid identification of cell-specific, internalizing RNA aptamers with bioinformatics analyses of a cell-based aptamer selection.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
BackgroundThe broad applicability of RNA aptamers as cell-specific delivery tools for therapeutic reagents depends on the ability to identify aptamer sequences that selectively access the cytoplasm of distinct cell types.

Subcubic algorithm for (Unweighted) Unrooted Tree Edit Distance

open access: yes, 2023
The tree edit distance problem is a natural generalization of the classic string edit distance problem. Given two ordered, edge-labeled trees $T_1$ and $T_2$, the edit distance between $T_1$ and $T_2$ is defined as the minimum total cost of operations that transform $T_1$ into $T_2$. In one operation, we can contract an edge, split a vertex into two or

Hydrogel Confinement Strategies for 3D Cell Culture in Microfluidic Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Hydrogel confinement structures are key to organizing 3D cell cultures in microfluidic devices. This review classifies five structural strategies (micropillar, phaseguide, porous membrane, stepped‐height, and support‐free) and examines their trade‐offs alongside fabrication methods.

Bayesian and maximum likelihood phylogenetic analyses of protein sequence data under relative branch-length differences and model violation

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2005
Background Bayesian phylogenetic inference holds promise as an alternative to maximum likelihood, particularly for large molecular-sequence data sets.

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...
