Speeding up rendering of hybrid surface and volume models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Hybrid rendering of volume and polygonal model is an interesting feature of visualization systems, since it helps users to better understand the relationships between internal structures of the volume and fitted surfaces as well as external surfaces ...

Traversing Grammar-Compressed Trees with Constant Delay [PDF]

open access: yes2016 Data Compression Conference (DCC), 2016
A grammar-compressed ranked tree is represented with a linear space overhead so that a single traversal step, i.e., the move to the parent or the i-th child, can be carried out in constant time. Moreover, we extend our data structure such that equality of subtrees can be checked in constant time.

Nonlocomotory Robotic Strategies for Dynamic Rotation Control in Terrestrial Robots: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Terrestrial robots increasingly require rapid body rotation to maintain stability and agility in complex environments. This review shows nonlocomotory rotational control strategies that operate without ground contact, including reaction wheels, tails, bars, limbs, and thrusters.

A Novel Method to Improve the Efficiency of Classification Phase of a Decision Tree

open access: yesELCVIA Electronic Letters on Computer Vision and Image Analysis, 2020
So far, most of the research on classification algorithms in machine learning has been focused only on improving the training speed and further improving the technical performance evaluation measures of the constructed models.

You Only Need Attention to Traverse Trees [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 57th Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics, 2019
In recent NLP research, a topic of interest is universal sentence encoding, sentence representations that can be used in any supervised task. At the word sequence level, fully attention-based models suffer from two problems: a quadratic increase in memory consumption with respect to the sentence length and an inability to capture and use syntactic ...

Improving the Robustness of Visual Teach‐and‐Repeat Navigation Using Drift Error Correction and Event‐Based Vision for Low‐Light Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Visual teach‐and‐repeat (VTR) navigation allows robots to learn and follow routes without building a full metric map. We show that navigation accuracy for VTR can be improved by integrating a topological map with error‐drift correction based on stereo vision.

Hybrid Continuum Robot Designs and Architectures for Healthcare Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Hybrid continuum robots represent an emerging class of flexible manipulators that blend materials, structures, and actuation concepts from the established fields of soft and continuum robotics. This review introduces an accessible framework to distinguish key hybridization approaches, surveys current designs aimed at complex clinical applications, and ...

General transformations for GPU execution of tree traversals [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the International Conference on High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis, 2013
With the advent of programmer-friendly GPU computing environments, there has been much interest in offloading workloads that can exploit the high degree of parallelism available on modern GPUs. Exploiting this parallelism and optimizing for the GPU memory hierarchy is well-understood for regular applications that operate on dense data structures such ...

Cross‐Scale Hierarchical Targeted Delivery System Based on Small‐Scale Magnetic Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article reviews a cross‐scale hierarchical targeted delivery system that integrates magnetic continuum robots and magnetic microrobots. By combining rapid long‐range navigation with precise microscale targeting, the system overcomes key limitations of single‐scale approaches.
