Joint trellis coded quantization/modulation

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1991
A joint source/channel coding system constructed using trellis coded quantization (TCQ) and trellis coded modulation (TCM) is described. Identical trellises are used in the TCQ and TCM systems, and a straightforward mapping of TCQ codewords to TCM symbols is presented which guarantees that Euclidean squared distance in the channel is commensurate with ...

Multiple trellis coded modulation (MTCM)

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1988
The authors demonstrate a trellis coded modulation technique referred to as multiple trellis coded modulation (MTCM) wherein more than one channel symbol per trellis branch is transmitted. They have found simple two-state trellis codes for symmetric MPSK multiple phase-shift keying and AM modulations that can achieve 3-dB gain over uncoded modulation ...

Trellis coded quadrature spatial modulation

Physical Communication, 2018
Abstract In this paper, a novel multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) transmission scheme called trellis coded quadrature spatial modulation (TC-QSM), is proposed. In the proposed scheme, trellis coded modulation (TCM) principle is applied to the emerging quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) scheme, and a trellis encoder and a QSM mapper are jointly ...

Trellis-coded modulation with multidimensional constellations

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1987
Trellis-coded modulation schemes using four-, eight-, or 16 -dimensional constellations have a number of potential advantages over the usual two-dimensional schemes: a smaller constituent two-dimensional constellation, easier tolerance to phase ambiguities, and a better trade-off between complexity and coding gain.

Punctured Trellis-Coded Quantization and Modulation

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2006
We propose a punctured trellis-coded quantization (PTCQ) scheme as the dual of a known punctured trellis-coded modulation (PTCM) scheme, and then generalize a combined trellis-coded quantization/modulation (TCQ/TCM) scheme to a combined PTCQ/PTCM scheme, with rates optimally allocated between source coding and channel coding to match the given channel ...

Improved codes for space-time trellis-coded modulation

IEEE Communications Letters, 2000
Space-time coded modulation has been shown to efficiently use transmit diversity to increase spectral efficiency. We propose new trellis codes found through systematic code search. These codes achieve the theoretically maximal diversity gain and improved coding gain compared to known codes.

Noncoherent-coded modulation constructed from conventional trellis-coded modulation

IEEE Communications Letters, 1998
We propose a method to construct noncoherent-coded modulation (NCM) by modifying the conventional trellis-coded modulation (TCM) as proposed by Ungerboeck (1982). The error performance of the modified TCM using noncoherent decoding can approach that of the conventional TCM using coherent decoding for additive white Gaussian noise.

On punctured trellis-coded modulation

IEEE Transactions on Information Theory, 1996
Summary: Punctured convolutional codes result in some savings in the complexity of Viterbi decoders, compared to other codes of the same rate. However, in general use of the punctured structure in the decoder results in a performance loss for trellis codes, due to difficulties in assigning metrics.

Systematic trellis-coded modulation

Proceedings of IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC), 2002
Systematic trellis-coded modulation (STCM) is a novel approach to coded modulation, which enables symbol-by-symbol detection of trellis-coded data. A set of design rules, which guarantees nonzero coding gain, and codes with asymptotic coding gains of 3.0-5.4 dB are presented. STCM is well suited for operation in a dual-mode receiver.
