Thermodynamic Constraints on H2 Production and Habitability From Mg‐Rich Serpentinites as Mars Analogs

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract Serpentinization produces hydrogen and methane through abiotic water‐rock interactions, potentially supporting chemotrophic life in planetary subsurface environments. Serpentine deposits in the Martian Noachian landscapes of Nili Fossae and the Southern Highlands have been considered as potential paleo‐habitable zones. However, the geochemical

Towards a detailed comprehension of the inertisation processes of amphibole asbestos. In situ high-temperature behaviour of fibrous tremolite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Thermal behaviour of fibrous tremolite from Maryland, USA has been investigated in situ up to breakdown temperature. Tremolite can be found both as primary constituent and as contaminant in Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs).

Critical reappraisal of Balangero chrysotile and mesothelioma risk

open access: yesEpidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health, 2014
BackgroundBalangero, 40 km northwest of Torino in the Piedmonte Region, was home to the largest and most active chrysotile mine in Europe operating from 1916 - 1990 and employed over 300 men at any one time. The chrysotile was thought to be pure. Despite

Petrography and mineral chemistry of metamorphosed mantle peridotites of Nain Ophiolite (Central Iran)

open access: yesJournal of Economic Geology, 2017
Introduction Study of the petrology of the ophiolites as the relics of ancient oceanic lithosphere, is a powerful tool to reconstruct Earth’s history. Mantle peridotites have mostly undergone alteration and serpentinization to some extent.

Coesite Discovery in Eclogites Confirms UHP Metamorphism in the Orlica‐Śnieżnik Dome (SW Poland)

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, Volume 44, Issue 3, Page 200-225, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Eclogite lenses are exposed within the orthogneiss‐dominated core of the Orlica‐Śnieżnik Dome in the Sudetes, which forms the northeastern margin of the Bohemian Massif (Variscan Belt of Central Europe). The presence of coesite inclusions in garnet and omphacite confirms that these eclogites underwent ultrahigh‐pressure metamorphism.

The Tremolite Isograd near Marble Lake, Ontario

open access: yes, 1973
Marble, metavolcanic rocks, and pelite are found in a northeasterly trending belt near Marble Lake, in the Grenville Province, Ontario. The rocks have been metamorphosed to the lower amphibolite facies in the southwest, the grade increasing to the mid ...

Subduction Zone Magnetism: The Influence of Metamorphism and Serpentinization in the Mantle Wedge

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Subduction zone magnetic anomalies have previously been used to infer their thermal structure assuming a uniformly serpentinized mantle carries a homogeneous, isotropic magnetization. However, seismic tomography, geological observations and numerical modeling provide increasing evidence for a non‐uniformly serpentinized mantle wedge that may ...

Durability performances of wollastonite, tremolite and basalt fiber-reinforced metakaolin geopolymer composites under sulfate and chloride attack

open access: yes, 2017
This paper aims to investigate the durability related performances of geopolymer composite materials that synthesized by alkali activation of metakaolin (MK) with reinforcement of wollastonite (WS), tremolite (TR) and short basalt fiber (SBF).
