Deep tremor in subduction zones is thought to be caused by small repeating shear slip events on the plate interface with significant slow components. It occurs at a depth of about 30 kilometres and provides valuable information on deep plate motion and shallow stress accumulation on the fault plane of megathrust earthquakes.

At Aso volcano, Kyushu, Japan, several different types of volcanic tremor have been observed for many years. One of them is the continuous tremor, the ground vibration which has dominant frequency between 3 and 10 Hz and has approximately constant amplitudes without any clear beginning and ending.
