Surgical impact of laparoscopic and laparotomic elective ovariectomy on inflammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers in anestrus dogs

open access: yesVeterinary Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To compare the systemic inflammatory and oxidative stress responses after elective ovariectomy via open surgery (OPEN) or laparoscopy (LAP) in anestrus bitches. Study design Prospective, blinded, randomized clinical trial. Animals A total of 26 healthy bitches.

Effect of pressure-controlled ventilation and volume-controlled ventilation for laparoscopic surgery in the Trendelenburg position: a systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesPerioperative Medicine
Background Volume-controlled ventilation (VCV) and pressure-controlled ventilation (PCV) are commonly used in laparoscopic surgery in the Trendelenburg position, and pressure-controlled ventilation volume guaranteed (PCV-VG) has been increasingly used ...

Dose‐dependent effects of graded altered gravity during hypovolaemia on central haemodynamics and cardiovascular autonomic regulation

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The cardiovascular system is strongly influenced by gravitational loading and blood volume status. Quantifying central haemodynamic and autonomic reflex responses to fluid redistribution is important in altered‐gravity conditions, with relevance to spaceflight and clinical medicine.

Echocardiographic Measures of Diastolic Function Are Preload Dependent during Triggered Positive Pressure Ventilation: A Controlled Crossover Study in Healthy Subjects

open access: yesCritical Care Research and Practice, 2012
Background. The use of echocardiography in intensive care settings impacts decision making. A prerequisite for the use of echocardiography is relative resistance to changes in volume status and levels of positive pressure ventilation (PPV).

Hypoxia and hypercapnia elicit overlapping but distinct skeletal muscle toxicities

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Hypoxia and hypercapnia cause overlapping skeletal muscle phenotypes, including atrophy, change in myofibre metabolic profile and myogenic response to injury. Both signals operate via distinct cellular pathways. Abstract Skeletal muscle dysfunction is strongly associated with elevated mortality in acute and chronic pulmonary ...

Evaluation of optic nerve sheath diameter in patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery in the Trendelenburg position: a prospective observational study

open access: yesAnnals of Saudi Medicine
BACKGROUND: The Trendelenburg position and pneumoperitoneum may cause cerebral edema and increased intracranial pressure. Non-invasive measurement of the diameter of the optic nerve sheath by ultrasonography can provide early recognition of intracranial ...

Comparative Effects of Laparotomy and Laparoscopy‐Assisted Embryo Transfer on Oxidative Stress and Thiol–Disulphide Homeostasis in Tuj Ewes

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 4, July 2026.
Laparoscopic embryo transfer in Tuj ewes induces less oxidative stress and better preserves thiol–disulphide homeostasis than laparotomy. These findings indicate that minimally invasive approaches better maintain redox balance and antioxidant defence during embryo transfer procedures.
