Intraoperative Collection of Ascitic Fluid With Intra‐ or Postoperative Reinfusion in Ovarian Cancer: Safety and Feasibility of a Roller Pumping Method

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients with ovarian cancer often present with massive ascites, leading to significant protein loss during surgical procedures. Although cell‐free concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy (CART) is used in palliative settings to mitigate protein loss, its application in intraoperative settings remains unexplored.

Intra-Atlas Node Size Effects on Graph Metrics in fMRI Data: Implications for Alzheimer’s Disease and Cognitive Impairment

open access: yesSensors
Network neuroscience, a multidisciplinary field merging insights from neuroscience and network theory, offers a profound understanding of neural network intricacies. However, the impact of varying node sizes on computed graph metrics in neuroimaging data

Does Capitation Matter? Impacts on Access, Use, and Quality

open access: yesInquiry: The Journal of Health Care Organization, Provision, and Financing, 2004
Provider capitation may constrain costs, but it also may reduce access and quality of care. We examine the impacts of capitating the usual source of care of enrollees in health maintenance organizations (HMOs).

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

The East in Russian Foreign Policy Thought: Rethinking the International Order

open access: yesVestnik MGIMO-Universiteta
The conflict in Ukraine has revealed stark divergences in how Western and nonWestern states interpret global crises. With few exceptions, countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America have refrained from supporting Western sanctions against Russia ...

Evidence of shared and distinct functional and structural brain signatures in schizophrenia and autism spectrum disorder

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2021
Du et al used fMRI data from patients with schizophrenia (SZ) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to analyze multi-scale brain functional connectivity and cerebral grey matter density and volume.

Cultural Differences in Fear of Negative Evaluation After Social Norm Transgressions and the Impact on Mental Health

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2022
Social norm transgressions are assumed to be at the root of numerous substantial negative outcomes for transgressors. There is a prevailing notion among lay people and scholars that transgressing social norms can negatively impact one’s mental health ...

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Multiple ETS family transcription factors bind mutant p53 via distinct interaction regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutant p53 gain‐of‐function is thought to be mediated by interaction with other transcription factors. We identify multiple ETS transcription factors that can bind mutant p53 and found that this interaction can be promoted by a PXXPP motif. ETS proteins that strongly bound mutant p53 were upregulated in ovarian cancer compared to ETS proteins that ...
