Can denticle morphology help identify southeastern Australian elasmobranchs?

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, Volume 104, Issue 6, Page 1848-1859, June 2024.
Abstract Elasmobranchs are covered in scale‐like structures called dermal denticles, comprising dentine and enameloid. These structures vary across the body of an individual and between species, and are frequently shed and preserved in marine sediments.

First sighting of a tropical benthic reef shark species at Rapa Nui: chance dispersal or a sign of things to come? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
On 20 December 2017, a mature Triaenodon obesus was observed at Hanga Roa Bay, Rapa Nui (Easter Island) at c.18 m depth. This observation increases both the range of T. obesus in the Pacific Ocean and the number of elasmobranch species at Rapa Nui.

Pairwise interaction between human population density and wave energy with respect to occurrence of Triaenodon obesus. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The effect of wave energy is influential only at the lowest human population densities and the effect of human population density is magnified in higher wave energy areas.
