Ocular development in the Oman shark,Iago omanensis (Triakidae), Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea

The Anatomical Record, 1999
Ocular ontogenesis was studied in embryos of the placental viviparous shark, Iago omanensis, abundant in the Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea, at depths of 150-1500 meters. Samples of gravid females were collected bi-monthly, and their embryos extracted. The eyes of 220 of those embryos of various dimensions were dissected and routinely prepared for histological

A comprehensive phylogenomic study unveils evolutionary patterns and challenges in the mitochondrial genomes of Carcharhiniformes: A focus on Triakidae

open access: yesGenomics
The complex evolutionary patterns in the mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of the most species-rich shark order, the Carcharhiniformes (ground sharks) has led to challenges in the phylogenomic reconstruction of the families and genera belonging to the order, particularly the family Triakidae (houndsharks).

The spleen ofmustelus schmitti (chondrichthyes, triakidae): A light and electron microscopic study

Ichthyological Research, 1998
The spleen ofMustelus schmitti is described, being an elongated organ running dorsally along the stomach and surrounded by a thin capsule without muscular tissue. The classical division between red and white pulps was evident, with a marginal sinus surrounding the latter. Numerous ellipsoids were located in the red pulp, inside nodular-like structures,

Mercury (Hg) and selenium (Se) content in the shark Mustelus henlei (Triakidae) in the northern Mexican Pacific

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2020
Mercury and selenium were assessed in Mustelus henlei, which is a carnivorous predatory shark that is important for the coastal communities of the northern Mexican Pacific (NMP). Sixty-two individuals were sampled; muscle and liver were isolated and analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometry.

Von Bertalanffy Growth Rates in Species of Mustelus (Elasmobranchii: Triakidae)

Copeia, 1981
The parameters of the von Bertalanffy growth model are estimated for seven species of Mustelus by extrapolation from embryonic growth rates. The method, developed by Holden (1974), requires information on maximum observed length, gestation period and size at birth.

Feeding habits of juvenile Mustelus mustelus (Carcharhiniformes, Triakidae) in the western Mediterranean

1997
The stomach content of 261 juvenile smoothhounds Mustelus mustelus (36-75 cm total length) from the Gulf of Valencia (Spain) were studied. Samples were obtained between 1988 and 1996. Brachyura were the most important prey in terms of frequency of occurrence and numerical composition, followed by Stomatopoda, teleosts and Natantia.

Biological data from a data‐deficient shark: the Arabian smoothhound Mustelus mosis (Carcharhiniformes: Triakidae)

Journal of Fish Biology, 2016
The present study provides information on length distribution, reproductive biology and diet of Mustelus mosis based on individuals caught in waters off the eastern Arabian Peninsula. Although ageing of vertebral centra was attempted, band pairs were of low clarity and counts could not be confidently assigned.

Families Scyliorhinidae and Triakidae (Squaliformes) in fishing catch in the Croatian part of the Adriatic sea

2003
Specimens of family Scyliorhinidae, Scyliorhinus canicula (Linnaeus, 1758) and Scyliorhinus stellaris (Linnaeus, 1758) and of family Triakidae, Galeorhinus galeus (Linnaeus, 1758), Mustelus asterias (Cloquet, 1821), Mustelus mustelus (Linnaeus, 1758) and Mustelus punctulatus (Risso, 1826) were caught from 1997 to 2002 in the Croatian part of the ...

The First Documented Record of Genus Mustelus (Chondrichthyes: Triakidae) in the Black Sea

2014
Two specimens of Starry smoothhound, Mustelus asterias Cloquet, 1821 were captured from three miles off the coast of Şile (south-western Black sea) on 19 November 2000 at a depth ca. 90 m. This paper is on the presence of M. asterias in the Black Sea.

Reproduction in Mustelus canis (Chondrichthyes: Triakidae) from an unexploited population off northern Brazil

2011
Aspects of the reproductive biology of Mustelus canis (Mitchill, 1815) (n=100) were assessed for an unexploited population off northern Brazil. Based on clear maturation between juveniles and adults, total length (TL) at 50% maturity for males and females was estimated at 99 and 108cm; slightly larger than previous estimates for more southern and ...
