Metazoan parasite community as a potential biological indicator in juveniles of the starry smooth-hound Mustelus asterias Cloquet, 1819 (Carcharhiniformes Triakidae)

open access: yesAquatic Living Resources, 2022
The starry smooth-hound Mustelus asterias is a near-threatened coastal shark in Europe, whose parasitofauna is largely unknown. We studied metazoan parasites of 20 immature sharks (13 males and seven females) from the English Channel and we examined ...

New findings into the genetic population structure of two commercially valuable and threatened sharks, Mustelus mustelus (Linnaeus, 1758) and M. punctulatus (Risso, 1827), allow refining management strategy in the Central Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Elasmobranch species are the direct or accidental catch of fisheries and can have a commercial importance. In the Mediterranean Sea, a long-term period of overfishing brought several demersal elasmobranchs to be depleted and threatened by extinction, due

Diet of the smooth-hound, Mustelus mustelus (Chondrichthyes: Triakidae), in the eastern Adriatic Sea

open access: yesCybium, 2007
The diet of the smooth-hound, Mustelus mustelus, in the eastern Adriatic Sea was investigated with respect to fish size and season. Stomach contents of 139 specimens, 67 to 137 cm in TL, collected by bottom-trawl from 2001 to 2003 were analyzed. Of the total number of stomachs examined, 24 were empty (17.2%).
