Whole‐Body Pattern of Muscle Degeneration and Progression in Sarcoglycanopathies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize whole‐body intramuscular fat distribution pattern in patients with sarcoglycanopathies and explore correlations with disease severity, duration and age at onset. Methods Retrospective, cross‐sectional, multicentric study enrolling patients with variants in one of the four sarcoglycan genes who underwent whole‐body ...

Development of a Prediction Model for Progression Risk in High‐Grade Gliomas Based on Habitat Radiomics and Pathomics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To investigate the value of constructing models based on habitat radiomics and pathomics for predicting the risk of progression in high‐grade gliomas. Methods This study conducted a retrospective analysis of preoperative magnetic resonance (MR) images and pathological sections from 72 patients diagnosed with high‐grade gliomas (52 ...

Characterization of Clinical Phenotype to Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein Concentrations in Alexander Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine the concentration of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma in Alexander disease (AxD) and whether GFAP levels are predictive of disease phenotypes. Methods CSF and plasma were collected (longitudinally when available) from AxD participants and non‐AxD controls.

Diagnostic Utility of the ATG9A Ratio in AP‐4–Associated Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Adaptor protein complex 4–associated hereditary spastic paraplegia (AP‐4‐HSP), a childhood‐onset neurogenetic disorder and frequent mimic of cerebral palsy, is caused by biallelic variants in the adaptor protein complex 4 (AP‐4) subunit genes (AP4B1 [for SPG47], AP4M1 [for SPG50], AP4E1 [for SPG51], and AP4S1 [for SPG52]).

Trial Registration Report Card

New England Journal of Medicine, 2005
One measure of medical progress is new treatments. The discovery of a novel therapy takes time and money, but more important, it requires the mutual effort of groups that, while they share the common goal of improved treatment, often have fundamentally competing interests. These interests intersect at the clinical trial.

Trial registration in pediatric surgery trials

Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2018
Prospective clinical trial registration serves to increase transparency and to mitigate selective reporting bias. An assessment of adult surgical trials revealed poor trial registration practice with incomplete provision of information in registries and inconsistent information in the corresponding publication.
