Bayesian sequential analysis of clinical trials feedback

open access: yesStatistica, 2013
The paper deals with the Bayesian sequential analysis of clinical trials and the related predictive approach in a particularly innovative fashion. We propose a unified methodology for sequential clinical trials under a Bayesian paradigm. The idea is to make predictive inference based on the data accrued so far together with future data.

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Sequential dependencies between trials in free choice tasks [PDF]

open access: yes
In two previous experiments we investigated the neural precursors of subjects' "free" choices for one of two options (pressing one of two buttons, and choosing between adding and subtracting numbers).

Substrate specificity of Burkholderia pseudomallei multidrug transporters is influenced by the hydrophilic patch in the substrate‐binding pocket

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Multidrug transporters BpeB and BpeF from the Gram‐negative pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei have a hydrophilic patch in their substrate‐binding pocket. Drug susceptibility tests and growth curve analyses using an Escherichia coli recombinant expression system revealed that the hydrophilic patches of BpeB and BpeF are involved in the substrate ...

The effectiveness of stem cell‑derived extracellular vesicles therapy for intrauterine adhesions: a meta-analysis of preclinical studies

open access: yesReproductive Biology and Endocrinology
Background The therapeutic potential of stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) for intrauterine adhesions (IUA) has attracted increasing preclinical investigation, yet a comprehensive and up-to-date meta-analysis is currently lacking.

Spatio-Temporal Patterning in Primary Motor Cortex at Movement Onset [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Voluntary movement initiation involves the engagement of large populations of motor cortical neurons around movement onset. Despite knowledge of the temporal dynamics that lead to movement, the spatial structure of these dynamics across the cortical ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Effect of stellate ganglion block on postoperative nausea and vomiting after general anesthesia: A meta-analysis

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research
Objective To identify the effect of stellate ganglion block on the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting. Methods We systematically searched electronic databases for published randomized controlled trials comparing stellate ganglion block with ...

Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Understanding these mechanisms may help us develop better ways to prevent or treat brain infections in ...
