Obligate and facultative symbionts in different populations of the greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Hem.: Aleyrodidae)

open access: yesNamah-yi anjuman-i hasharahshinasan-i Iran
The greenhouse whitefly, Trialeurodes vaporariorum (Westwood), is one of the harmful pests of vegetables and ornamental plants. The high damage caused by this pest has made it necessary to design an integrated pest management (IPM) programs based on ...

Mitogenomic analysis of diversity of key whitefly pests in Kenya and its implication to their sustainable management

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Whiteflies (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) are devastating agricultural pests of economic importance vectoring pathogenic plant viruses. Knowledge on their diversity and distribution in Kenya is scanty, limiting development of effective sustainable management ...

Sequence analysis and genomic organization of Aphid lethal paralysis virus: a new member of the family Dicistroviridae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The complete nucleotide sequence of the genomic RNA of an aphid-infecting virus, Aphid lethal paralysis virus (ALPV), has been determined. The genome is 9812 nt in length and contains two long open reading frames (ORFs), which are separated by an ...

Chrysoperla externa (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) as a Potential Biological Control Agent of Raoiella indica (Acari: Tenuipalpidae)

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
First and third instar Chrysoperla externa showed efficient predatory capacity at low R. indica density, but second instar C. externa exhibits a density‐dependent predatory ability. The lacewing C. externa shows promise as a biocontrol agent for R. indica in coconut because it consumed 8362 R. indica females across all its larval instars.

Chemical composition of Clinopodium menthifolium aqueous extract and its influence on antioxidant system in black nightshade (Solanum nigrum) and pepper (Capsicum annuum) seedlings and mortality rate of whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum) adults

open access: yesBulletin of the Chemical Society of Ethiopia, 2017
The use of allelochemicals as weed control agents is becoming widely investigated. However, the impact of these bioherbicides on cultivated plants is less known.

Lebensdauer des räuberischen Marienkäfers Serangium parcesetosum Sicard (Col., Coccinellidae) mit natürlicher und künstlicher Nahrung [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The little known ladybird, Serangium parcesetosum SICARD (Col., Coccinellidae) seems to be an important predator of whiteflies. It has found attacking Bemisia tabaci (GENN.) (Hom., Aleyrodidae) (KAPADIA & PURI 1992), Aleurolobus barodensis MASK (PATEL et

Trap Cropping to Maximize Agricultural Yield: Balancing Land Allocation Trade‐Offs Between Main Crop Production and Effective Pest Management

open access: yesNatural Resource Modeling, Volume 39, Issue 1, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Trap cropping is a pest management strategy where a grower plants an attractive “trap crop” alongside the primary crop to divert pests away from it. We propose a simple framework for optimizing the proportion of a grower's field or greenhouse allocated to a main crop and a trap crop to maximize agricultural yield.

Pepino Mosaic Virus: A Globally Important Tomato Pathogen and a Rising Model in Molecular Virology

open access: yesMolecular Plant Pathology, Volume 27, Issue 1, January 2026.
Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV) is a globally important tomato pathogen causing fruit quality losses. It comprises multiple genetic types and spreads via seed and mechanical contact. Lacking resistant cultivars, management relies on cross‐protection. PepMV–tomato interactions provide a valuable model for studying virus–plant molecular mechanisms and ...

Commodity risk assessment of Petunia spp. and Calibrachoa spp. unrooted cuttings from Uganda

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to evaluate the likelihood of pest freedom at entry in the EU, including both regulated and non‐regulated pests, potentially associated with unrooted cuttings of the genera Petunia and Calibrachoa produced under physical isolation in Uganda.
