Compatable smooth interpolation in triangles

open access: yes, 1973
Boolean sum smooth interpolation to boundary data on a triangle is described. Sufficient conditions are given so that the functions when pieced together form a CN-1(Ω) function over a triangular subdivision of a polygonal region Ω and the precision sets ...

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

A novel approach to triangulate 3D point clouds for 3-axis sculptured surfaces machining [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions
Reverse Engineering (RE) is employed to replicate sculptured surfaces from 3D point clouds. However, reconstructing continuous surfaces remains challenging. To address this, triangulated models are used as an alternative.

Triangle‐free subgraphs in the triangle‐free process

open access: yesRandom Structures & Algorithms, 2011
AbstractConsider the triangle‐free process, which is defined as follows. Start with G(0), an empty graph on n vertices. Given G(i ‐ 1), let G(i) = G(i ‐ 1) ∪{g(i)}, where g(i) is an edge that is chosen uniformly at random from the set of edges that are not in G(i − 1) and can be added to G(i ‐ 1) without creating a triangle.

Threesomes, Degenerates, and Love Triangles

open access: yesIEEE Annual Symposium on Foundations of Computer Science, 2014
The 3SUM problem is to decide, given a set of n real numbers, whether any three sum to zero. It is widely conjectured that a trivial O(n2)-time algorithm is optimal and over the years the consequences of this conjecture have been revealed.

Optimization of the Production of Rubber Compounds Using Mathematical Models

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Rubber compounds were mixed in a batch internal mixer, and symbolic regression was used to derive mathematical models linking recipe and process parameters to ram path, torque, and mixing quality (incorporation, dispersion, distribution). Subsequent optimization with evolutionary algorithms identified operating conditions that reduce specific energy ...

Symmetric smooth interpolation on triangles

open access: yes, 1974
Rational and polynomial 'smooth' interpolation schemes are derived which interpolate a function and its derivatives along the boundary of a triangle.

Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.
