MR Imaging of the Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex
Magnetic Resonance Imaging Clinics of North America, 2015MR imaging has emerged as the mainstay in imaging internal derangement of the soft tissues of the musculoskeletal system largely because of superior contrast resolution. The complex geometry and diminutive size of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) and its constituent structures can make optimal imaging of the TFCC challenging; therefore ...

Partial excision of the triangular fibrocartilage complex
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1988A cadaver model was used to evaluate the effect of partial excision of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) on ulnar wrist kinetics. Excision of less than two thirds of the horizontal portion of the TFCC was found to have no statistical effect experimentally on forearm axial load transmission. This data supports, from a biomechanical standpoint,

Wrist pain with triangular fibrocartilage thickening
Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 1999We review the case of a patient who had wrist pain with synovial proliferation due to triangular fibrocartilage (TFC) thickening, whose pain was relieved by total TFC resection. This suggested that TFC thickening should be considered in the evaluation of patients with wrist pain.

Histological assessment of the triangular fibrocartilage complex
Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume), 2015The morphological structure of the seven components of triangular fibrocartilage complexes of 11 cadaver wrists of elderly people was assessed microscopically, after staining with Hematoxylin-Eosin and Elastica van Gieson. The articular disc consisted of tight interlaced fibrocartilage without blood vessels except in its ulnar part.

Arthroscopic repair of the triangular fibrocartilage complex
Arthroscopy, 1996Abstract To evaluate the efficacy of arthroscopic repair of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC), functional outcome was determined after arthroscopic repair of 22 wrists in 21 patients. Average follow‐up was 36 months (range, 26 to 48 months) and the patients' average are was 30 years (range, 22 to 38 ...

Functional Anatomy of The Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex
Journal of Hand Surgery, 1996The functional anatomy of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) was investigated in 20 fresh cadavers. Dynamic changes in the TFCC during rotation were also examined from both the proximal and distal aspects. In our analysis, the TFCC was separated into three components.

Peripheral Lesions of the Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex
Seminars in Musculoskeletal RadiologyAbstract The recently introduced CUP classification of the triangular fibrocartilage complex divides the lesions into central (C), ulnar (U), and peripheral (P). The periphery of the triangular fibrocartilage complex consists of the meniscus homologue, the ulnocarpal joint capsule including the extensor carpi ulnaris tendon sheath ...

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1999
Perforations or communicating defects of the triangular fibrocartilage complex have been more commonly identified after Palmer published his classification system (J Hand Surg 1989;14A:594-606). To his variants of class 1B (traumatic) ulnar avulsion with or without distal ulnar fracture, a third category may be added: defects of the ulnar collateral ...

Traumatic Disruption of the Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1992The surgical pathology in 42 cases of traumatic triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) disruption comprised a spectrum of injury resulting in five basic stages of increasingly severe ulnar wrist instability. In all cases, detachment of the articular disk from its ulnar insertion was the principal cause of distal radioulnar joint instability; in 28 ...

Triangular fibrocartilage complex lesions: A classification
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1989Based on anatomic and biomechanical studies and review of our clinical experience of the past 10 years, a classification of injuries to the triangular fibrocartilage complex is presented. This classification is based on the clinical examination, routine x-ray films, wrist arthrograms, wrist arthroscopy, and wrist arthrotomy.
