The STAR Silicon Strip Detector (SSD)

open access: yes, 2002
The STAR Silicon Strip Detector (SSD) completes the three layers of the Silicon Vertex Tracker (SVT) to make an inner tracking system located inside the Time Projection Chamber (TPC). This additional fourth layer provides two dimensional hit position and

Chiral phases and dynamics of dipoles in triangular optical ladders

open access: yes
Dipoles in triangular optical ladders constitute a flexible platform for the study of the interplay between geometric frustration and long-range anisotropic interactions, and in particular for the observation of the spontaneous onset of chirality. Frustration magnifies the effect of the dipolar interactions in itinerant polarized dipolar bosons.

Using Photo‐Elicitation to Make Marginalised Voices Heard and Seen in Human Resource Management Research

open access: yesHuman Resource Management Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Photo‐elicitation (PE) is a qualitative research method that utilises images to obtain a deeper understanding of the perspectives, and beliefs of the research participants. The PE approach can be particularly advantageous for marginalised voices (silenced or underrepresented groups with limited power) by exploring different world views ...

Rectangular Layouts and Contact Graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Contact graphs of isothetic rectangles unify many concepts from applications including VLSI and architectural design, computational geometry, and GIS. Minimizing the area of their corresponding {\em rectangular layouts} is a key problem.

“Green Developmentalism” and the Role of International Law in Negotiating the Energy Transition

open access: yesGlobal Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Policy evolutions in North American and European capitals have prompted debates about ongoing shifts in global economic governance from a primary emphasis on promoting markets to a more extensive role for the state in steering economic relations.

On graphs with representation number 3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A graph $G=(V,E)$ is word-representable if there exists a word $w$ over the alphabet $V$ such that letters $x$ and $y$ alternate in $w$ if and only if $(x,y)$ is an edge in $E$.

Students' willingness to communicate in the foreign language learning classroom: Exploring the roles of classroom support and psychological needs satisfaction

open access: yesBritish Journal of Educational Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background University students around the world learn English as a foreign language (EFL) as it is considered vital for their post‐education opportunities locally and internationally. Optimising English language learning in EFL classrooms at the university is thus important.

On Edge Differential of Certain Families of Graphs

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics
This paper presents and examines a new game of combinatorial optimisation that can be defined on any graph. A player can buy any number k of tokens in this game for $1 apiece, and then place them on a selected subset of k edges in G.

A tutorial on Bayesian model averaging for exponential random graph models

open access: yesBritish Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract The use of exponential random graph models (ERGMs) is becoming prevalent in psychology due to their ability to explain and predict the formation of edges between vertices in a network. Valid inference with ERGMs requires correctly specifying endogenous and exogenous effects as network statistics, guided by theory, to represent the network ...

Action Design Research for Actionable Knowledge Production: A Metareflexive Methodology for Digital Transformation and Innovation Studies

open access: yesCreativity and Innovation Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The sociotechnical complexities and hidden dynamics shaping the evolution of digital transformation (DT) and innovation initiatives frequently elude traditional research approaches reliant on retrospective analysis, static and detached observation.
