Slumping and Sediment Storage at the Shelf‐Edge: A Case Study From the Kookfontein and Waterford Formations, Tanqua Karoo Depocenter, South Africa

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 38, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Block model of Tanqua shelf‐edge delta formation at Katjiesberg, illustrating key stratigraphic features and system relationships interpreted from the Kookfontein‐Waterford formations. Schematic lines A‐E correspond to locations of measured sections. ABSTRACT A low‐gradient shelf‐edge delta system preserved at the Katjiesberg outcrop in the northern ...

Quantifying Multi‐Source Sediment Supply in a Tropical Foreland Basin (Oligocene‐Miocene Nyalau Formation, Borneo)

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 38, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Detrital zircon unmixing identifies three sediment sources for the Oligocene–Miocene Nyalau Formation, including a previously unrecognised syn‐depositional component characterised by Oligocene–Miocene volcanic zircons and Neoproterozoic populations absent from established sources.

RioM‐1: A New Calcite Reference Material for U‐Pb LA‐ICP‐MS Geochronology

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, Volume 50, Issue 1, Page 181-199, March 2026.
Key Points RioM‐1 calcite was characterised for trace elements, U‐Pb geochronology, Sr and O isotopes using ID‐TIMS, LA‐ICP‐MS and SIMS. U‐Pb dates from ID‐TIMS and LA‐ICP‐MS across several independent laboratories returned identical results within uncertainty.

Ancestral Biogeography Reveals Diverse Origins of Costa Rica Margin Seep Invertebrates

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim This work addressed the hypotheses that invertebrate species from hydrocarbon seeps at the Pacific Costa Rica Margin (CRM) would descend from adjacent biogeographic provinces, and that common ancestral histories would be identified across invertebrate groups.

A suture in time: The ontogeny of cranial suture morphology in mammals

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 248, Issue 3, Page 501-516, March 2026.
Mammal cranial sutures are important indicators of the biomechanical and developmental pressures acting upon the skull. Across three prominent sutures dividing the vault of the mammalian skull, divergent patterns emerge both taxonomically and developmentally.
