Risk factors for reinvasion of human dwellings by sylvatic triatomines in northern Bahia State, Brazil

open access: yesCadernos de Saúde Pública, 2005
The aim of this study in Curaça, Bahia, Northeast Brazil was to explore possible factors associated with the infestation of human dwellings by Triatoma brasiliensis or Triatoma pseudomaculata, two sylvatic triatomine species.

Triatomine Fauna and Recent Epidemiological Dynamics of Chagas Disease in an Endemic Area of Northeast Brazil

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Updated information of the dispersion dynamics of Chagas disease (CD) and a systemic analysis of these data will aid the early identification of areas that are vulnerable to transmission and enable efficient intervention. This work synthesized spatiotemporal information regarding triatomine fauna and analyzed this information in combination with the ...

Characteristics of Triatomine infestation and natural Trypanosoma cruzi infection in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2016
: INTRODUCTION Natural and artificial ecotope infestation by the kissing bug triatomines and their colonization and infection by Trypanosoma cruzi , the Chagas disease agent, were evaluated in nine municipalities of the State of Rio Grande do Norte ...

Comparative descriptions of eggs from three species of Rhodnius (Hemiptera: Reduviidae: Triatominae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The authors describe and compare the morphological and ultrastructural characteristics of eggs from the three most recent described species of the genus Rhodnius Stål, 1859, which have not previously been studied. These species are Rhodnius colombiensis (

The effect of relative humidity on the behaviour and development of Triatoma brasiliensis [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, 2002
Abstract The preference for relative humidity (RH) and suitability of different levels of this environmental parameter were investigated in the haematophagous bug Triatoma brasiliensis Neiva, 1911 (Hemiptera, Reduviidae).

Morphometric Analysis of the Host Effect on Phenotypical Variation of Belminus ferroae (Hemiptera: Triatominae)

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
The Triatominae subfamily includes hematophagous insects, well known for their role as vectors for the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite, etiologic agent of Chagas’ disease. Belminus ferroae is a triatomine that showed an increased demographic fitness when cockroaches were used as hosts. Here we compare the centroid size (CS) and wing shape between B. ferroae

The metasternal and Brindley's Glands of Triatoma brasiliensis Neiva (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) [PDF]

open access: yesNeotropical Entomology, 2009
Triatoma brasiliensis Neiva is the most important vector of the Chagas' disease in the semiarid zones of North-eastern Brazil. Adult bugs have two main pairs of exocrine glands, the metasternal and the Brindley's glands, which release volatiles possibly with defense, alarm and/or mating functions.

Impact of Chagas Disease in Bolivian Immigrants Living in Europe and the Risk of Stigmatization

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology Research, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Background. The prevalence of Chagas disease in endemic countries varies with the kind of vector involved and the socioeconomic conditions of the population of origin. Due to recent immigration it is an emerging public health problem in Europe, especially in those countries which receive immigrant populations with a high prevalence of carriers.

The sialotranscriptome of the blood-sucking bug Triatoma brasiliensis (Hemiptera, Triatominae) [PDF]

open access: yesInsect Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2007
Triatoma brasiliensis is the most important autochthon vector of Trypanosoma cruzi in Brazil, where it is widely distributed in the semiarid areas of the Northeast. In order to advance the knowledge of the salivary biomolecules of Triatominae, a salivary gland cDNA library of T. brasiliensis was mass sequenced and analyzed.
