Triaxial Testing of Frozen Sand [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 1981
AbstractTriaxial testing of frozen saturated Ottawa sand under confined compression was carried out under hydrostatic pressures varying between 0.1 and 75 MPa at a temperature of -10°C and strain-rate 7.7×10-5s-1. Yield and failure stresses increased with increasing hydrostatic pressures up to about 40 MPa, beyond which the stresses dropped.

An MCMC Fitting Method for Triaxial Dark Matter Haloes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Measuring the 3D distribution of mass on galaxy cluster scales is a crucial test of the LCDM model, providing constraints on the behaviour of dark matter. Recent work investigating mass distributions of individual galaxy clusters (e.g.

On-sample water content measurement for a complete local monitoring in triaxial testing of unsaturated soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
To provide a complete local monitoring of the state of an unsaturated soil sample during triaxial testing, a local water content measurement device was adapted to a triaxial device comprising the measurement of local displacements (Hall effect ...

Experimental methodology of study of damage initiation and development in textile composites in uniaxial tensile test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Damage in textile composites is closely connected with the internal micro- and meso-geometry of the reinforcement, and reveals features, which are not present in the damage processes in classical laminates. This paper proposes a test sequence intended to

Consequences of Triaxiality for Gravitational Wave Recoil of black holes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Coalescing binary black holes experience a ``kick'' due to anisotropic emission of gravitational waves with an amplitude as great as 200$ km/s. We examine the orbital evolution of black holes that have been kicked from the centers of triaxial galaxies ...

Estimating Black Hole Masses in Triaxial Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Most of the super massive black hole mass estimates based on stellar kinematics use the assumption that galaxies are axisymmetric oblate spheroids or spherical.

Unified anisotropic elastoplastic model for sand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper presents a unified approach to model the influence of fabric anisotropy and its evolution on both the elastic and plastic responses of sand.

Development of a Computer Vision-Based Three-Dimensional Reconstruction Method for Volume-Change Measurement of Unsaturated Soils during Triaxial Testing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Problems associated with unsaturated soils are ubiquitous in the U.S., where expansive and collapsible soils are some of the most widely distributed and costly geologic hazards.

Determining the Microcracks Closure and Opening with Different Loading Paths Triaxial Tests [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper discusses a complex investigation to determine the microcrack closure and opening, with four different triaxial tests of a homogeneous isotropic limestone.
