Fluid Chemistry Effect on Localized and Ductile Deformation of a Porous Sandstone

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 130, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract In geological reservoirs, pore fluid chemistry can affect rock strength by inducing mineral dissolution, precipitation, and alteration, among other processes. Increasing pressure and temperature can shift deformation from localized to ductile, decreasing permeability and affecting reservoir exploitability.

Ferromagmatic Intrusions on Asteroid (16) Psyche May Be Magnetized

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 130, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract NASA's Psyche mission will arrive at the metal‐rich asteroid (16) Psyche in 2029. The mission will test whether (16) Psyche is a remnant of a melted, differentiated planetesimal that formed a molten iron metallic core. Previous studies have suggested that a molten metallic core fluid could erupt volcanically, explaining the high metal content ...

Superstability of micrometre jets surrounded by a polymeric shell

open access: yesJournal of Applied Crystallography, Volume 58, Issue 4, Page 1261-1268, August 2025.
Superstable micrometre compound jets have been produced for serial femtosecond X‐ray crystallography. We have produced superstable compound liquid microjets with a 3D‐printed coaxial flow‐focusing injector. The aqueous jet core is surrounded by a shell, a few hundred nanometres in thickness, of a low‐concentration aqueous solution of a low‐molecular ...

Individual asymmetric competition responses across multidimensional niches may enable coexistence of closely related species

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 8, Page 1957-1971, August 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Many studies have focussed on niche differentiation at the population level to explain the coexistence of similar species. However, information on how individual‐level processes across multidimensional niches shape community dynamics and species coexistence, especially ...

Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Defects in Mitochondrial Adaptation to Exercise Training in the Muscle of Patients With COPD: Disease Versus Disuse

open access: yesActa Physiologica, Volume 241, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is frequently associated with skeletal muscle dysfunction, having a considerable impact on exercise tolerance and patient prognosis. Mitochondria play a role in skeletal muscle weakness and exercise intolerance in COPD, but the majority of studies on mitochondrial function are biased by the fact
