Membrane for Rockfill Triaxial Testing [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1972
This technical note describes a study that was undertaken to develop a reliable, inexpensive membrane system for testing large specimens under high pressures. The system consists of several layers of rubber to provide the necessary strength to bridge large voids, covered by a thin outer membrane to provide a seal.

The triaxial testing of fresh concrete

Magazine of Concrete Research, 1962
Summary The workability of a stable concrete mix can be subdivided into the properties of compactability and mobility. The report describes the development of a triaxial test to assist in the expression of mobility in fundamental physical units.

Multistage Triaxial Testing of Rocks

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1979
Abstract To determine the constitutive properties of the components in a rock structure, triaxial tests are commonly carried out on cylindrical test specimens. The conventional triaxial test (designated the single-stage triaxial test) involves obtaining a peak strength for the specimen and, after its breakage, a residual strength. In the

Numerical simulation of triaxial tests

ce/papers, 2018
AbstractMany successful applications of numerical models for simulation of sand behavior show the importance of both triaxial tests and the constitutive relations used in simulation. In this work several triaxial tests have been simulated using the hypoplastic material model.

An Electromagnetic Connection for Triaxial Testing

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 1988
Abstract This paper describes a new tensile connection for transmitting tensile forces to triaxial test specimens. Comparative tests show that the loading and frequency characteristics of this electromagnetic connection are considerably better than those of commercially available screw and vacuum type connections. This means that two-way

Discrete element method simulations on triaxial test and triaxial creep tests

2014
Numerical triaxial simulations using the discrete element method (DEM) were performed to examine how the adopted contact models and the associated parameters affect the response. The increase in the shear modulus G in the Hertz-Mindlin’s contact model can enhance the small-strain Young’s modulus and reduce the initial volumetric contraction but the ...

Triaxial Tests of Fiber-Reinforced Concrete

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2001
This paper presents results of an extensive experimental parametric study of the mechanical response of various types of fiber-reinforced concrete tested under triaxial stress combinations. The objective of this study was to characterize the constitutive properties of these materials, with respect to fiber type and content, load path, condition at ...

Triaxial tests on salt rocks

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1968
Abstract Triaxial tests on various salt rocks were conducted, and Mohr's envelope of stress determined, as a preliminary measure before determining the necessary dimensions of pillars in salt mines and assessing the liability of the salt to possible rockburst.

Simulation of triaxial and true triaxial tests on natural and reconstituted Pisa clay

Géotechnique, 2002
A kinematic hardening/bounding surface plasticity model is used to reproduce the experimental behaviour of the natural soft clay found at Pisa. The model accounts for progressive loss of structure with plastic strains, and can be made to degenerate into a structureless state. Model parameters are calibrated on drained triaxial probing tests on natural

Triaxial Testing of Soft Rocks

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2011
Abstract The main purpose of this paper is to describe the present practice for triaxial testing at the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute with particular reference to testing of soft rocks from the oil reservoirs in the North Sea. The following aspects related to this testing are described: (a) testing equipment, (b) procedures for ...
