Effect of plasma treatment on the triboelectric properties of polymer powders

Journal of Applied Physics, 1993
Surfaces of fine polystyrene (PS) and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) powders were modified by exposure to the downstream products of a nitrogen or oxygen microwave plasma. The effects of nitrogen and oxygen incorporation in the powder surface were studied with emphasis on variations in the triboelectric properties of the powder.

Dielectric Charging Characterization of Triboelectric Effects in MEMS Switches

Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems, 2016
Dielectric charging is one of the key topics concerning microelectromechanical capacitive switch reliability; however, very little is known about how charge is generated on an exposed dielectric surface when brought in contact with another dielectric surface under high electric field.

Effect of Polymer Structure on its Triboelectric Properties

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1976
An experimental procedure is reported for the determination of the triboelectric charging of polymer films, which has sufficient precision to allow systematic observations of the variations of charge values which result from systematic changes of polymer structure (by copolymerization and with additives).

Triboelectric effect: A new perspective on electron transfer process

Journal of Applied Physics, 2017
As interest in the triboelectric effect increases in line with the development of tribo-electrification related devices, the mechanisms involved in this phenomenon require more systematic review from the dual perspectives of developed classical insights and emerging quantum understanding.

Electrical separation of plastic materials using the triboelectric effect

Minerals Engineering, 2004
This paper presents a study and some considerations regarding the electrical tribocharge and electrostatic separation of plastic materials (polymers) using the triboelectric effect. The dependence of the electrical tribocharge on the relative humidity of the atmosphere in which the process takes place were analyzed, based on a theoretical model ...

Demonstration of the triboelectricity effect by the flow of liquid water in the insulating pipe

Journal of Electrostatics, 2011
Abstract This paper demonstrates the tribolelectricity by the flow of water in an insulating pipe. A theoretical analysis showing the relation between the electric discharge and the system hydromechanical parameters is developed. Based on the macroscopic RC-circuit modeling of the system understudy, techniques allowing to minimize the discharge ...

Effects of surface density of states N(E) on the number of effective triboelectric phonons in triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs): An analytical and numerical study

Materials Science and Engineering: B, 2019
Abstract In this work, the concept of triboelectric phonon energy (Eph) is coupled with the triboelectric charge density equation instead of the work function of the metal (WM) to understand electron transfer between a metal and a dielectric. The driving force to initiate electron transfer during a contact-separation process is assumed to be Eph ...
