Quantification of Benzoquinones in the Flour Beetles,Tribolium castaneumandTribolium confusum
Preparative Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 1996Benzoquinones were extracted from flour beetles by rinsing them for 8 min in methanol followed by homogenization in fresh methanol. This procedure recovered > 96% of the total benzoquinones from both species, with the methanolic rinse and supernatant representing the "surface" and "total" benzoquinones. As determined by UV/VIS spectrometry and reversed-

Adults of Tribolium audax Halstead or Tribolium confusum Jacquelin du Val were placed in bottles of wheat plus ground wheat (23:1, wt:wt) to determine effects of the insects on grain deterioration over 20 wk at 30°C and 70% RH. T. audax increased in numbers to =125 insects per 130 g wheat compared with 500 insects per 130 g wheat for T.

Mobility in Tribolium Confusum
Ecology, 1968The mobility of adult—flour beetles in their natural environment (a flour medium) was measured for 2 genetic strains and both sexes of Tribolium confusum. (When the sexes were observed separately, the mobility of a mutant and a wild strain did not differ in the males, but in females the mutants were nearly 10 times as mobile as the wild individuals. If

The spatial distribution of Tribolium confusum
Journal of Applied Probability, 1980Neyman, Park and Scott (1956) describe an experiment which they performed to determine the spatial distribution ofTribolium confusumdeveloping within a closed container. To explain the concentration of beetles at the boundary a birth–death–migration model is developed in which the beetles may migrate over a set of lattice points, and this is shown to ...

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1978
Abstract 1. 1. The hydrocarbon mixtures of Tribolium castaneum and T. confusum are qualitatively similar and comprise n -alkanes (C 25 to C 31 , 62–63%), 3-methylalkanes (C 26 to C 32 , 11–13%), and internally branched monomethylalkanes (C 27 to C 32 , 18–21%) and dimethylalkanes (C 29 to C 31 , 4–6%). 2. 2.

Egg Cannibalism by Tribolium Larvae
Ecology, 1966Synthetic laboratory strains of two species of flour beetles, Tribolium castaneum and T. confusum, were compared in terms of the voracity of larvae for eggs. Significant differences were observed between the species. Tribolium castaneum was much more cannibalistic with the greatest difference observed in 4— to 14—days—old larvae. Older active larvae of

The Energetics of Interactions in Populations of Tribolium confusum and Tribolium castaneum
Environmental Entomology, 1979Caloric determinations were used to define and quantify interactions between populations of Tribolium confusum Duval and Tribolium castaneum Herbst reared at 25°, 30°, and 35°C. Caloric values of food consumed, respiration expenditures, and caloric values for life stages in single and mixed species populations were determined at 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 ...
