Viral Papillomatosis in Florida Manatees (Trichechus manatus latirostris)
Experimental and Molecular Pathology, 2002The Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris) is one of the most endangered marine mammals in American coastal waters. Naturally resistant to infectious disease, the manatee immune system appears highly developed to protect it against the harsh marine environment and the effects of human-related injury.

Renal anatomy of the manatee, Trichechus manatus, linnaeus
American Journal of Anatomy, 1989AbstractThe manatee kidney is com posed of several closely apposed lobes. These are formed by cortical folds (plicae corticales) that completely isolate the medullae, except where the medullae of adjacent lobes are partially fused. The cortex is continuous; its folds usually are separated, but only partially, by interlobar septa ex tending from the ...

Genetic Variability in the Florida Manatee (Trichechus manatus)
Journal of Mammalogy, 1988Tissue was obtained from 59 manatee ( Trichechus manatus ) carcasses salvaged from 20 counties in Florida. Allozyme phenotypes at 24 structural loci were determined by gel electrophoresis. Averages for the proportion of polymorphic loci and mean heterozygosity were 0.300 (range, 0.167–0.417) and 0.050 (range, 0.028–0.063), respectively. These estimates
