Trichodina modesta: an exotic ciliate in the Neotropical region parasitizing an unusual host [PDF]
In this study, an important ornamental fish, Betta splendens (Osphronemidae), from three different Brazilian states was examined for parasitic infestations. Smears with parasites were impregnated with silver nitrate or stained using Giemsa for taxonomic evaluation.

This study reports a new Trichodinidae, Trichodina bellottii n. sp., parasitizing the pearly fish Austrolebias bellottii from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Its small subunit ribosomal ribonucleic acid (SSU rDNA) was sequenced for the first time.

We report 97 new sequences, including SSU‐rRNA, ITS1‐5.8S‐ITS2 rRNA, LSU‐rRNA, mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase c subunit I, and mitochondrial small subunit ribosomal RNA genes of 30 oligohymenophorean populations. A comprehensive analysis of class Oligohymenophorea is conducted, encompassing 250 populations.
