New record ofTrichodina unionis(Ciliophora, Trichodinidae) from freshwater gastropods in Bangkok, Thailand [PDF]

open access: yesParasite, 2019
Trichodinids, which are ciliate protists, are causative agents of an aquatic animal disease, trichodiniasis, especially among both captive and wild fish. This disease can adversely affect aquaculture and have economic impacts.

Geometric morphometric on a new species of Trichodinidae. A tool to discriminate trichodinid species combined with traditional morphology and molecular analysis [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology: Parasites and Wildlife, 2018
This study reports a new Trichodinidae, Trichodina bellottii n. sp., parasitizing the pearly fish Austrolebias bellottii from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Its small subunit ribosomal ribonucleic acid (SSU rDNA) was sequenced for the first time.

First record of Trichodina heterodentata (Ciliophora: Trichodinidae) in banded knifefish Gymnotus carapo (Gymnotidae) cultured in Brazil [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology, 2021
The aim of this study was to report the first record of Trichodina heterodentata in banded knifefish Gymnotus carapo. Banded knifefish cultivated in the municipality of Jataí, state of Goiás, in the central western region of Brazil, experienced fish ...

Morphology and Molecular Phylogeny of Endosymbiotic Ciliates (Peritrichia, Mobilida) of Marine Invertebrates with Descriptions of Two Novel Species Urceolaria clepsydra n. sp. and Urceolaria bratalia n. sp. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Eukaryot Microbiol
ABSTRACT Mobilid ciliates are a morphologically distinct group of protists that form a wide range of symbiotic relationships with aquatic animals and includes three subgroups: Trichodinidae, Urceolariidae, and Polycyclidae. Trichodinids are best known for infecting fishes, whereas urceolariids infect diverse marine invertebrates.

A Reassessment of Phylogenetic Relationships in Class Oligohymenophorea (Protista, Ciliophora) Based on Updated Multigene Data. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
We report 97 new sequences, including SSU‐rRNA, ITS1‐5.8S‐ITS2 rRNA, LSU‐rRNA, mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase c subunit I, and mitochondrial small subunit ribosomal RNA genes of 30 oligohymenophorean populations. A comprehensive analysis of class Oligohymenophorea is conducted, encompassing 250 populations.

The Effect of Parasitization by Trichodinid Ciliates on the Mortality of Cultured Pacific Fat Sleeper larvae (Dormitator latifrons) [PDF]

open access: yesAnimals
Trichodinidae, a prevalent group of protozoan ectoparasites in aquaculture, cause rapid mortality in fish hatcheries. Despite their significance, knowledge about these parasites in farmed fish in South America, especially in native species that are ...

Checklists of Parasites of Farm Fishes of Babylon Province, Iraq. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Parasitol Res, 2016
Literature reviews of all references concerning the parasitic fauna of fishes in fish farms of Babylon province, middle of Iraq, showed that a total of 92 valid parasite species are so far known from the common carp (Cyprinus carpio), the grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), and the silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) as well as from three ...

Revisions to the Classification, Nomenclature, and Diversity of Eukaryotes. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Eukaryot Microbiol, 2019
Abstract This revision of the classification of eukaryotes follows that of Adl et al., 2012 [J. Euk. Microbiol. 59(5)] and retains an emphasis on protists. Changes since have improved the resolution of many nodes in phylogenetic analyses. For some clades even families are being clearly resolved.

Unclear host taxonomy hinders parasite studies: An up-to-date checklist of the protozoan and metazoan parasites of Phoxinus minnows (Teleostei: Leuciscidae). [PDF]

open access: yesJ Fish Biol
Abstract Phoxinus minnows are small freshwater fish found throughout Eurasia. The taxonomy of this genus is still under investigation, and new species are regularly described. They are frequently introduced outside their native range due to their use as live bait for angling, and such fish introductions can have diverse impacts on the recipient areas ...
