Information regarding trichodinid ectoparasites on marine fishes of North America is relatively scarce. In this study, 5 ciliate species from the family Trichodinidae were found associated with 8 fish hosts from the rocky intertidal zone of the western coast of the Baja California Peninsula (BCP), Mexico. All of the host-parasite relationships recorded

The family Trichodinidae (Ciliophora: Peritrichia) includes nine genera of which the largest genus,Trichodina Ehrenberg, 1830, comprises more than 150 species. In order to provide uniform specific characteristics for taxonomic descriptions of trichodinids, Lom (1958) proposed the use of a set of standard taxonomic characteristics based on silver ...

Data on trichodinid ciliophorans in Brazil are scarce and generally do not use the modern silver-impregnation technique, which is essential to the taxonomy of the group. The present study reports not only on the first occurrence of Trichodina heterodentata in Brazil but also on the first record of this trichodinid infesting tadpoles of the species ...

Wild-caught European perch (Perca fluviatilis) were exposed in the laboratory to untreated bleached pulp and paper mill effluent in two separate experiments. The first experiment was conducted at 7-8°C using effluent concentrations of 5 and 10%, and the second experiment was conducted at ambient river temperature of 4-20°C using an effluent ...

Trichodinids are ciliated protozoan parasites or symbionts of marine and freshwater organisms. During a parasitic ciliate survey in Hubei, China, two Trichodina species, T. acutaLom, 1961 and T. hyperparasitis Chen & Hsish, 1984, were isolated from body surface of loach Misgurnus anguillicaudatus and gills of yellow catfish Pelteobagrus fulvidraco ...

Trichodiniasis is a severe disease of aquaculture that kills a large number of fish. The discovery of new antiprotozoal drugs to treat Trichodina infections is gaining popularity. The purpose of the study was to see how efficient two medicinal plants were against Trichodina infection.

Endoparasitic trichodinids are rather rare ciliates. In this study we describe a new species named Trichodina lishuiensis from the bladder of Odorrana schmackeri collected in Zhejiang, China, with the prevalence of 20% (9/45). We identified T. lishuiensis as a new species by morphological comparison and molecular analysis.

Tilapia is the common name for a wide spectrum of cichlid fishes usually selected for aquaculture activities. However, some aspects of the natural history of these fishes, such as the diversity of certain ectoparasitic protistan groups remain understudied. In order to understand the diversity of ciliates of the family Trichodinidae parasitizing tilapia
