Trichomonas vaginalis

International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics, 1990
Although not life-threatening, trichomoniasis is a major health problem, especially in women. It is transmitted sexually and has a very high incidence worldwide. We argue that Trichomonas vaginalis is not a commensal. Attempts should be made to identify this pathogen in all suspicious cases.

Genotyping Trichomonas vaginalis

International Journal for Parasitology, 2006
A genotyping method has been developed to distinguish each Trichomonas vaginalis isolate and has provided the first genome mapping studies of this protist with an estimated 180Mb genome. The technique was developed using high molecular weight DNA prepared from five laboratory isolates from Australia and USA and 20 clinical isolates from South Africa ...

Observations on the pathology of trichomonas vaginitis and on vaginal implants with trichomonas vaginalis and trichomonas intestinalis

American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1940
Abstract Serial sections of biopsies from areas of hemorrhage and granulation in cases diagnosed clinically as trichomonas vaginitis are described. They indicate that the pathologic change occurring in this type of vaginitis is not produced alone by simple invasion of flagellates from the lumen of the vagina, but that some additional mechanism exists,

Polyamines in Trichomonas vaginalis

Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 1983
Trichomonas vaginalis was grown in a modified Bushby's medium and putrescine, spermidine and spermine levels were determined in extracts from 24- and 48-h cultures and also in the culture media. All three polyamines were present in T. vaginalis extracts; the putrescine level and putrescine/spermidine ratio were much higher than those reported for other
