Mycopathologia, 2005Trichophyton tonsurans is the primary etiologic agent of fungal infections in the pediatric population. Establishing techniques that facilitate strain discrimination offer the opportunity to investigate the relationship between fungal genotype, biochemical phenotype and disease presentation in the host.

A.M.A. Archives of Dermatology, 1955In the states bordering Mexico there is a high incidence of Trichophyton tonsurans infection of the scalp. * Fortunately, this serious and often protracted type of tinea capitis is rare in the eastern part of the United States. In two series reported from New York † and totaling 3,169 cases, only 9 (0.28%) were due to T. tonsurans.

Mycopathologia et Mycologia Applicata, 1962Seventy cases of dermatomycosis due toTrichophyton tonsurans (21 cases) andT. sulfureum (49 cases) were found in rural Quebec east of Rimouski during field investigations from 1956–1961. There are no immigrants in this area and endothrix ringworm has been present for at least three consecutive generations.

California medicine, 2004Of 484 cases of ringworm of the scalp observed in a period of two and a half years at a clinic in Los Angeles, 57 (11.78 per cent) were caused by Trichophyton tonsurans, an organism previously considered an infrequent cause of tinea capitis in the United States.

Some data on the occurrence of trichophyton tonsurans in Romania
Mycopathologia et Mycologia Applicata, 1965During the last 12 years,T. tonsurans has been isolated from 250 cases of various mycotic infections, 80% in the adults, the rest in children. The age of infected patients varied from 1 to 66 years, the female being represented by 10%.
