Disseminated Trichosporon inkin and Histoplasma capsulatum in a patient with newly diagnosed AIDS

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 2008
Histoplasma capsulatum and Trichosporon inkin may cause disseminated disease in immunocompromised patients. Disseminated T inkin, the causative agent of white piedra, is rare and difficult to diagnose. We report the case of a 28 year-old man with newly diagnosed HIV infection who developed asymptomatic lesions on his trunk and extremities.

Co-isolation of Trichosporon inkin and Candida parapsilosis from a scalp white piedra case

Medical Mycology, 2004
White piedra is a rare fungal infection of the hair shaft characterized by small, firm, irregular white-brown nodules. The infection is caused by basidiomycetous yeasts in the genus Trichosporon. We report a case of a 28-year-old female patient who acquired the infection in Qatar.

Autopsy case of disseminated Trichosporon inkin infection identified with molecular biological and biochemical methods

Pathology International, 2006
Trichosporon species are usually opportunistic pathogens. Disseminated trichosporonosis is uncommon but is increasingly reported with a high mortality rate, especially in immunocompromised patients. Although Trichosporon asahii and T. mucoides are known as the most common pathogens of disseminated trichosporonosis, cases of systemic infection due to T.

Trichosporon inkin: An Uncommon Agent of Scalp White Piedra. Report of Four Cases in Brazilian Children

Mycopathologia, 2014
We report four cases of scalp white piedra (SWP) in Brazilian female children. Morphological and physiological approaches gave inconsistent results for identifying Trichosporon to species level, while the sequencing of the intergenic spacer 1 region of ribosomal DNA accurately identified the agent of SWP as T. inkin.

Extensive White Piedra of the Scalp Caused by Trichosporon inkin: A Case Report and Review of Literature

Mycopathologia, 2011
Trichosporon species cause wide varieties of fungal infections. White piedra, a superficial fungal infection on the hair shaft, is caused by Trichosporon species. We report here a case of white piedra over the scalp due to T. inkin, a rarely isolated pathogen from such a lesion. The identification of the fungus was confirmed on the basis of morphology,

Infection by Trichosporon Inkin in Lung Transplant: Rare Infection, or Not So Rare?

Transplantation Proceedings
The incidence of invasive fungal infections has increased in recent years among transplant patients, with Trichosporon inkin being a rare but relevant etiological agent. This study examines the experience of our multidisciplinary lung transplant unit in the diagnosis and treatment of 6 cases of T.
