Molecular characterization of Trichuris serrata

open access: yesParasitology Research, 2015
Trichuris serrata, a whipworm of cats, can cause inflammation in the cecum and upper portion of the large intestine. It is unknown if the virulence and pathology of T. serrata differ from Trichuris campanula, the other species in cats. Distinguishing the species based on egg size is challenging.

Trichuris is not trivial

Parasitology Today, 1988
There is no doubt that whipworm, Trichuris trichiura, is common - infecting up to 800 million people throughout tropical and temperate areas. Less clear has been its clinical significance, largely because of the chronic insidious nature of the disease. Here, Ed Cooper and Don Bundy discuss the scale of disease caused by Trichuris, pointing to possible ...

Trichuris suis and Trichuris trichiura are different nematode species

Acta Tropica, 2009
In this paper, a morphological and biometrical study by optical microscopy and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) of Trichuris suis isolated from different hosts (Sus scrofa domestica and Sus scrofa scrofa) and Trichuris trichiura isolated from chimpanzee, has been carried out.

Trichuris and Trichuriasis in Humans

1989
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on human infection and discusses a reassessment of the place of T. trichiura in medical helminthology. It examines the life cycle of T. trichiura ––much of which, in the absence of appropriate research, remains controversial––and emphasizes that T.

Molecular identification of Trichuris vulpis and Trichuris suis isolated from different hosts

Parasitology Research, 2006
Trichuris suis was isolated from the cecum of two different hosts (Sus scrofa domestica -- swine and Sus scrofa scrofa -- wild boar) and Trichuris vulpis from dogs in Sevilla, Spain. Genomic DNA was isolated and internal transcribed spacers (ITS)1-5.8S-ITS2 segment from the ribosomal DNA (rDNA) was amplified and sequenced using polymerase chain ...
