Unusual Giant Right Atrium in Rheumatic Mitral Stenosis and Tricuspid Insufficiency

open access: yesCase Reports in Cardiology, 2011
Dilation and hypertrophy of the atria occur in patients with valvular heart disease especially in mitral regurgitation, mitral stenosis or tricuspid abnormalities.

Prognostic value of longitudinal strain relative apical sparing in severe aortic stenosis patients undergoing TAVR

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims This study evaluated the prognostic value of the relative apical sparing pattern (RASP) of longitudinal strain (LS) in patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and investigated whether its combination with pre‐procedural biomarkers enhances risk stratification.

Rationale and design of the randomized ‘early ventricular assist device’—Trial (VAD‐DZHK3)

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
The VAD‐DZHK3 trial is a randomised controlled study evaluating whether elective LVAD implantation improves outcomes in end‐stage heart failure (HF) patients listed for heart transplantation compared with delayed implantation after clinical deterioration.

Prognostic impact of peak oxygen consumption in heart failure: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Based on 64 studies, each 1 mL/kg/min increase in VO2peak significantly reduced all‐cause mortality (HR: 0.86, 95% CI 0.82–0.90) and combined outcomes of ventricular assist device, transplant and all‐cause mortality (HR: 0.84, 95% CI 0.79–0.89) in patients with heart failure, though no significant association was observed with cardiovascular mortality (

Four decades of heart–lung transplantation: Milestones and outcomes in advanced cardiorespiratory failure

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Heart–lung transplantation (HLTx) remains a life‐saving intervention for patients with end‐stage cardiopulmonary failure. We retrospectively analysed long‐term HLTx outcomes at our centre to assess survival trends and evaluate the impact of evolving immunosuppressive, surgical and perioperative strategies.

Atrial cardiomyopathy: From healthy atria to atrial failure. A clinical consensus statement of the Heart Failure Association of the ESC

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
The diagnosis of atrial cardiomyopathy (AtCM) requires electrical atrial dysfunction, with evidence of either mechanical atrial dysfunction, atrial enlargement, or excessive atrial fibrosis. The diagnostic cut‐points presented are for standard electrocardiogram and echocardiogram studies (see Figure 1 for further detail).

Tricuspid valve disease with significant tricuspid insufficiency in the fetus: Diagnosis and outcome [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American College of Cardiology, 1991
The echocardiographic studies and clinical course of 27 fetuses (mean gestational age 26.9 weeks) diagnosed in utero with tricuspid valve disease and significant tricuspid regurgitation were reviewed. The diagnosis of Ebstein's anomaly was made in 17 of the fetuses, 7 had tricuspid valve dysplasia with poorly developed but normally attached leaflets ...

Rationale and design of the TRIC‐I‐HF‐DZHK24 (TRICuspid Intervention in Heart Failure) trial

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Study overview of the TRIC‐I‐HF‐DZHK24 trial. HF, heart failure; HFH, heart failure hospitalization; QoL, quality of life; RHC, right heart catheterization; TR, tricuspid regurgitation; TTVI, transcatheter tricuspid valve intervention. Abstract Aims Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is a detrimental disease frequently diagnosed in patients with right‐sided ...

Case report of congenital tricuspid insufficiency

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Diagnosis, 1978
AbstractCongenital tricuspid insufficiency is a rare disease secondary to malformations of the tricuspid valve and of their chordae tendinae. Diagnosis is difficult but worthwhile, since surgery can be performed. We report one case repaired by surgery.

Exercise haemodynamics in pulmonary hypertension – a prospective pressure–volume loop study on right ventricular adaptation and prognosis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Multimodal assessment during exercise distinguishes clinically relevant right ventricular (RV) adaptation patterns (homeometric and heterometric adaptation) in pulmonary hypertension. Disease controls are patients with invasive exclusion of pulmonary hypertension.
