Tricyclic Antidepressant Overdose
Pediatric Clinics of North America, 1986Overdose of a tricyclic antidepressant is a serious and all-too-frequent occurrence. The diagnosis must be considered in known or suspected overdoses, and signs such as a dry axilla, tachycardia, and wide QRS must be specifically sought. Management depends upon support of vital functions and a thorough understanding of the pharmacology of the drug ...

Clinical aspects of tricyclic antidepressant poisoning.
Acta Medica Scandinavica, 2009Self-poisoning with antidepressant drugs was studied retrospectively in 225 patients admitted to an intensive care unit. Amitriptyline accounted for the overwhelming majority of cases (70%); 106 patients (47%) had taken two or more drugs, in 81 patients (

Tricyclic antidepressants and delirium
Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, 1983Some patients who take tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) develop delirium. Charts were reviewed of 125 inpatients whose TCA plasma levels had been assayed. Delirium was documented in 10 cases. The occurrence of delirium was statistically related to age, race, and loge plasma TCA levels.

Evaluation of risk factors for elevated tricyclic antidepressant plasma concentrations
Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety, 2009To quantify the effect of clinical and demographic factors on the risk of elevated and toxic tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) plasma concentrations (Cp) and to describe the rates of elevated and toxic TCA Cp.

The inwardly rectifying K+ (Kir) channel Kir4.1 is responsible for astroglial K+ buffering. We examined the effects of nortriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA), on Kir4.1 channel currents heterologously expressed in HEK293T cells, using a whole ...

Lithium and Tricyclic Antidepressants
Psychiatric Clinics of North America, 1992Pharmacokinetic studies of lithium and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) in children and adolescents report similarities to adults with respect to a wide interindividual genetic variation in the rate of elimination and with regard to the linear nature of the system.
