Comparative Evaluation of R134a and HFO‐1234ze Cryogen Spray Cooling Using a Mouse Model With Controllable Epidermal Pigmentation

open access: yesLasers in Surgery and Medicine, Volume 58, Issue 4, Page 343-355, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Objectives Cryogen spray cooling (CSC) is critical for protecting the epidermis during laser dermatologic procedures. The widely used cryogen, R134a, has a high global warming potential (GWP), motivating interest in environmentally favorable alternatives such as HFO‐1234ze.

The cryptohermitian smeared-coordinate representation of wave functions

open access: yes, 2011
The one-dimensional real line of coordinates is replaced, for simplification or approximation purposes, by an N-plet of the so called Gauss-Hermite grid points. These grid points are interpreted as the eigenvalues of a tridiagonal matrix $\mathfrak{q}_0$

Coupling Intuitive Physics Into Deep Learning for Soil Moisture Flow Processes Learning

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Soil water flow processes in the unsaturated zone support ecosystems and regulate water, energy, and biogeochemical cycles. Recently, deep learning (DL) approaches have significantly advanced soil moisture (SM) prediction tasks yet still challenging to interpret.

Tridiagonal and single-pair matrices and the inverse sum of two single-pair matrices

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 2023
A novel factorization for the sum of two single-pair matrices is established as product of lower-triangular, tridiagonal, and upper-triangular matrices, leading to semi-closed-form formulas for tridiagonal matrix inversion. Subsequent factorizations are established, leading to semi-closed-form formulas for the inverse sum of two single-pair matrices ...

Advances in Modelling Radiative Transfer, Heat Storage and Turbulent Transport to Evaluate CO2, Heat and Water Fluxes Over Broad‐Leaved Forests: The CanVeg2 Model

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 4, April 2026.
The CanVeg2 biophysical model is presented with a focus on three novel components with regards to the CanVeg model: 3D ray tracing radiative transfer modeling, a stem energy budget, and wind and turbulence profiles from higher order closure modeling.

Projected Methane Emissions From a Boreal Thermokarst Bog Are Sensitive to Carbon Substrate Availability, Distribution, and Transport Pathway Dominance

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 4, April 2026.
Projected radiative forcing from a thermokarst bog in Boreal Alaska depends on methane emission transport pathway dominance, with aerenchyma‐ and diffusion‐dominant causing net warming and ebullition‐dominant causing net cooling. Predicted methane shows a transient response as air temperature increases in future projections causing soil drying and ...

Coupled Water Flow and Solute Transport in Variably Saturated Agricultural Soils: A Python‐Based Numerical Simulation

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 3, March 2026.
Agricultural intensification and the increasing use of fertilizers and irrigation have significantly improved crop productivity but have also led to growing concerns over groundwater contamination and inefficient water usage. When solutes like nitrates and pesticides seep past the root zone, they not only deplete soil fertility but also endanger the ...

Tridiagonal pairs of type III with height one

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Linear Algebra, 2019
Let K denote an algebraically closed field with characteristic 0. Let V denote a vector space over K with finite positive dimension, and let A, A∗ denote a tridiagonal pair on V  of diameter d.  Let V0, . . . , Vd  denote a standard ordering of  the eigenspaces of A on V , and let θ0, . . . , θd denote the corresponding eigenvalues of A.

Continuous data assimilation for the Richards equation of unsaturated flow: A computational study

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, Volume 25, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
Abstract Azouani–Olson–Titi data assimilation (often referred to as AOT, after its authors) is a computationally‐efficient algorithm that has been shown analytically and computationally to recover the true solution for a wide variety of regimes exponentially fast in time, in addition to being robust with respect to noisy data, stochastic forcing, and ...

A family of tridiagonal pairs related to the quantum affine algebra U_q(sl_2) [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Linear Algebra, 2005
A type of tridiagonal pair is considered, said to be mild of q-Serre type.It is shown that these tridiagonal pairs induce the structure of a quantum affine algebra Uq( sl2)-module on their underlying vector space. This is done by presenting an explicit basis for the underlying vector space and describing the Uq( sl2)-action on that basis.
