The diagnostic value of pain evoked potential by electrical stimulation combined with noceciptive blink reflex in trigeminal neuralgia [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Neuroscience, 2021
Microvascular decompression is the first choice for treating the primary trigeminal neuralgia to provide the most extended duration of pain freedom. However, in microvascular decompression, we found that this kind of operation is only suitable for ...

The Clinical Efficacy of High‐Voltage Long‐Duration Pulsed Radiofrequency Treatment in Pudendal Neuralgia: A Retrospective Study

open access: yesNeuromodulation: Technology at the Neural Interface, EarlyView., 2021
Abstract Background Patients with pudendal neuralgia (PN) experience long‐lasting chronic pain, hyperalgesia, and comorbid emotional disorders, such as depression and anxiety. Treatment via conventional pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) current carries a significantly high rate of failure.

A single centre case series of microvascular decompression surgery for classical trigeminal neuralgia: functional outcomes and report of a unique conflict

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Neurosurgery, 2022
Background Microvascular decompression surgery for trigeminal neuralgia is now considered the benchmark surgical procedure for intractable trigeminal neuralgia of any variety.

Comparison of Two Different Pulsed Radiofrequency Modes for Prevention of Postherpetic Neuralgia in Elderly Patients with Acute/Subacute Trigeminal Herpes Zoster

open access: yesNeuromodulation: Technology at the Neural Interface, EarlyView., 2021
Abstract Objective Trigeminal postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is often refractory to treatment. Pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) neuromodulation can help in preventing PHN after herpes zoster. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of two different PRF modes on gasserian ganglion neuromodulation in elderly patients with acute/subacute trigeminal ...

Gain‐of‐function mutation Met136Val in SCN8A may not be a common cause of trigeminal neuralgia

open access: yesMolecular Genetics & Genomic Medicine, 2021
Background The Met136Val mutation in SCN8A was described in a case of trigeminal neuralgia but no frequency among affected individuals was provided. Methods Direct sequencing of 123 individuals diagnosed with classic trigeminal neuralgia was performed ...

Case report: Teflon granuloma following microvascular decompression manifesting as light-triggered trigeminal neuralgia

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery, 2022
Trigeminal Neuralgia is commonly triggered by stimuli in the area of the trigeminal nerve innervation. We report an exceptionally rare case of a 61-year-old woman who complained of recurrent trigeminal neuralgia, which sole trigger was seeing a bright ...

Accommodation to Diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia

open access: yesActa Clinica Croatica, 2017
Trigeminal neuralgia is one of the most common causes of facial pain. It implies short lasting episodes of unilateral electric shock-like pain with abrupt onset and termination, in the distribution of one or more divisions of the trigeminal nerve that ...

Trigeminal neuralgia

open access: yesBMJ, 2009
Trigeminal neuralgia is a sudden, unilateral, brief, stabbing, recurrent pain in the distribution of one or more branches of the fifth cranial nerve. Pain occurs in paroxysms, which can last from a few seconds to several minutes. The frequency of the paroxysms ranges from a few to hundreds of attacks a day.

Percutaneous radiofrequency rhizotomy and neurovascular decompression of the trigeminal nerve for the treatment of facial pain Rizotomia percutânea por radiofreqüência e a descompressão neurovascular do nervo trigêmeo no tratamento das algias faciais

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 2006
OBJECTIVE: To determine the outcomes of 354 radiofrequency rhizotomies and 21 neurovascular decompressions performed as treatment for 367 facial pain patients (290 idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia, 52 symptomatic trigeminal neuralgia, 16 atypical facial ...

Classical trigeminal neuralgia is associated with gephyrin and sodium voltage-gated channel alpha subunit 8

open access: yesFrontiers in Dental Medicine, 2023
Trigeminal neuralgia is highly debilitating, and its etiology is still undefined. The goal of this work was to define associations between well-characterized trigeminal neuralgia cases and common genetic variants in the population.
